I researched my last gun to compare buying online to buying local. The cost for each was within $4 of each other. I bought local, that way if I need help, I can get it easily.

The other benefit was that he took my other gun on trade and gave me what I paid for it originally. I couldn't beat that online after adding in shipping and transfer fees.

I really don't see the allure of buying online for expensive purchases.

By local at a shop noted for customer service. If I have problems with a gun, I deal with them rather than the manufacturer. It's easier that way.

In South Florida, if you can pick up a $350 Taurus at a gun shop for less than $600 you are doing good in most cases which is why I do not buy guns at all from local shops except for 1 where he charges 10% over cost. Even then I think I have only bought 1 gun at a dealer in the last 2 or 3 years. I buy all my firearms in private sales.
Other than that, I use their ranges at ridiculous prices which entitles me to handle any gun in their cases that I want to and not feel bad about it.
