Only one rifle Ruger 10/22 vs Kel Tec sub 2K

I'm making the decision to buy a rifle and it will probably be the only rifle I will own. I don't hunt and I have multiple Handguns and Shotguns for Home Defense so I'm basically looking for a collapseable high capacity rifle to tool around at an indoor pistol range (so SKS or other cheap rifles are out) for under $300. So far I narrowed my choices down to a Ruger 10/22 .22lr or Kel Tec sub 2000 9mm. I figured the 10/22 would be cheap to shoot, has high capacity mags and foldable stocks are available. the downsize is that it is a .22 so if the SHTF it is a poor man stopper, but it is great for hunting small game if need be. The other is the Kel Tec Sub2000. I don't own any capable pistols (it can take GLOCK, S&W, OR Beretta mags) but I own a few 9mms. The do make high capacity mags for them and it folds real small. The disavantage is that not quite have the look and feel of a rifle, and while 9mm ammo is cheap, .22 is still a lot cheaper.

Can someone help me decide or point me in another direction.

My money is on the 10/22. That little rifle can be modified/sporterized or what ever in so many different ways it will out function any other small caliber rifle. Oh, the Kel-Tec can't take a scope and still fold...

For your purposes, the 10/22 makes a lot more sense.

That said, a folding stock is good for stashing a gun somewhere, but not so great for shooting it. Actually, that's not always true; the Kel-Tec SU-16CA has a stock that folds but also functions as a rifle stock. But the folding stocks I've seen for the 10/22 don't offer a cheek weld of any kind.

I own the 10/22 and I used to own the Sub2000 in 9mm with Glock mags.
In my humble (and usually worthless) opinion...the Sub2K was more fun to shoot. Recoil was minimal and the thing was darn accurate, 50 yards was no problem and 100 yard shots were the norm...all with the Kel-Tec iron (plastic) sights. I got rid of it before I got a chance to mount a scope mount but some of the KTOGers and KTRangers are getting decent groups with Red-Dots and other small scopes. Also, the folding feature made it easy to carry in the car/truck and to throw in my hurricane bug-out box. I added the Kel-Tec strap and I'd recommend the Kel-Tec 1" stock extension. Also, Glock mags are the way to go...and get the 33 rounder...looks cool, works great.

My 10/22 is a great tool for my 10 year old daughter to learn on...that's why I no longer have the Sub2000 and have the 10/22 instead. Bought the cheap carbine at Wal-Mart and 10/22 has GREAT aftermarket support.
There are some must-haves if you get a 10/22. Before you buy hi-cap mags and all that...first invest in an extended mag release and a bolt buffer. I also bought a new hammer to reduce trigger pull from around 8 lbs down to under 3 lbs...all were cheap, I think I paid less then $50 for all of it.
10/22 are capable of decent accuracy and are cheap to shoot.

I think you need to decide what you want to do with the gun, then decide which one is capable of performing. I sold my Sub2000 because it was more of a niche gun and really didn't serve an immediate need.

I've never been a big fan of pistol caliber carbines, but for what it's worth you should check out the Marlin camp 9, they usually sell for under $400 and there are 20rd mags available.
