This is not the first thread that delved into wyocarps dual pistol setup. Most of the threads where he has posted pictures of his 'twins' have spiraled downward into this discussion, but this might be the first thread to start out on the topic. Some people just can't grasp the benefits of his choice.

Rockwell1: In the days of cap and ball revolvers Thomas Coleman "Cole" Younger was known consistently to carry as many as nine pistols. James Butler Hickcock normally carried two.

I've heard it was also common to carry spare loaded cylinders, which I always thought changing cylinders was a royal pain, at least on a '58 Remington replica. Those guys must have clicked their heels in the air when the Colt Model of 1873 showed up.

Very true

I always thought changing cylinders was a royal pain,

It may be but it beats the TAR out of trying to reload the pistol on horseback or in the middle of a fight.

Those guys must have clicked their heels in the air when the Colt Model of 1873 showed up.

The conversion took time because of the relative expense of the Colt's as well as the availability (do I hear the sound of history repeating itself?) of ammunition.

I see no problem with the duel setup. It's not like he fires them both at once.

Uh, wouldn't they come in a presentation case and best be used at 25 paces -- to settle questions of honor? :D

I know, I know, you meant dual. Its funnier the other way.

Perhaps I should have written, "Judging 19th century practice by my 20th century standards, I always thought changing cylinders was a royal pain..."

Carry on.

Well, at least I am making an impression. To get back on topic, I just thought it strange for a couple to drive to a quick stop type store at mid-night to stand at opposite sides for no apparent reason and then leave when becoming aware that someone had a gun, or two.

There has been some discussion as to who has carried dual guns. There have many famous characters that carried more than that. And I don't think it is as intimidating as at least one police officer here in Laramie that carries a four magazine speed pouch on the front of his belt.

Someone asked about how I carried them.

I might try that, but I would definitely need something(s) thinner and shorter in the grip. I'd also carry IWB, since my "real" pant size is about 30x35, and such pants don't actually exist. Stuffing another gun in my pants might actually make my pants fit me. :)

I need to practice shooting left-handed first!

Wyocarp--where did you find the double rig? I sometimes carry two revolvers, either a 19 and a 65, or a 19 and a big Colt in shoulder rig. It's nice too have 12 rounds of .357 immedietly available!

Are you talking about his shoulder rig, because I see a left-handed holster and a right-handed holster on a belt?

For what it's worth, they look like the work of High Noon to me, but I'm likely wrong.

Billy the KIDD

quote:"Billy The Kid was never known to carry Two guns and did one of his more notorious murders ( Bob Olinger) with a shot gun"

I think it was w/ Bob Olinger's own shot gun !!

Yup, and it really was loaded with dimes ( one of the VERY FEW things "Young Guns" got right)

Now for extra points can you tell me where (specifically) Billy the Kid was shot? ( C/ regard to locality not anatomically)

Sorry for jumping the rails on your thread Wyo

You might have reminded him of Michael Douglas in "Falling Down", (w/ Robert Duvall) and he feared you would begin your shooting spree when you noticed the drinks were unreasonably priced ;)

I was dressed in black with jump boots and a belt. I heard someone comment about "knock it off can't you see that cop. But I think that reaction is rare, and the risk is not worth it in liberal cities.

I regularly carry two fullsize and one backup handgun, usually concealed, but sometimes openly. The ONLY real issue I ever ran into was being detained by police (who then let me go when TO THEIR BLOODY AMAZEMENT, I was entirely law-abiding).

That said, I'd say you just spooked a hoplophobe. Don't worry about it. :)

Next time we hit the range, we can do some LH draw and fire drills, if'n you'd like? I'll send you a PM...

EDIT: Also, those holsters look familiar. They look like the DeSantis holsters I have for various guns of mine.

That's hilarious!! This thread has found its topic and it doesn't seem to be the incident at the store!

Keep inspiring a well thought out arrangement.

Definitely "Other." They were getting ready to purchase something embarrassing or of an adult nature, or to ask for help or directions, and then some person rolls up in a pickup truck, comes into the store with a child, and is wearing not only a gun, but two guns, and confronts them. The guy figures, "screw this jerk," and they set off for another store.

How do I know? Because I've been that guy.
