exerpt:LAYTON - Among the things that make Utah a special place are its gun laws. Love 'em or hate 'em, they often make living, working and even dining in the state a visceral experience, hearkening back to the heady days of Deadwood and Dodge City.
Most Utahns are aware their state issues an easily obtained concealed-weapon permit. By passing a background check and basic course in gun safety, anyone over 21 can qualify to carry an undercover gun.
But in how many places, outside parts of Africa and the Middle East, can you legally stroll down the street with a semi-automatic carbine slung over your shoulder, let alone a handgun on your hip?
"Any citizen over 18 can protect themselves by openly carrying a firearm," says Brian Nelson, an emergency vehicle equipment salesman who lives in Layton. Nelson is the spokesman for the Utah branch of OpenCarry.org, a national network organization whose motto is "A right unexercised is a right lost."

Other than the fact that the author compares open carry to deadwood... that's bad implication for modern day open carry IMO.

Utah does have excellent laws. I open carried there, in my car, in gas stations, etc and no one even noticed (with the exception of a few enthusiasts who asked me about my holster :)

I have lived in Utah for about14 years, never seen anyone open carry yet. I do know a lot of folks that are permits holders for conceal carry.

I've seen people open carry in Utah, several times.

One of the places where I used to live that I saw people open carry all of the time was in Arizona. Seemed like I saw someone open carrying every time I went out, and this was in the NW Phoenix area.

Ummm, in a lot of places you can do this like right where I live and we are not hairy-chested, rugged individualists as we have to pay our own way. So, much for the rootin', tootin' cowboy nonsense (if only the media knew about Vermont they would die from fright). Despite all their posturing of being worldly, the media elite are nothing more than bumpkins and worms in a jar, intellectually feeding on themselves.

You guys need to check your media types. They seem to be from the New York City jar (or, more likely, wish they lived in NYC).:uhoh:

Assuming this map is up-to-date, I only count 7 states where open carry is totally not permissible, however, many states do require licensing or have restrictions.

You've got that right, E.T.!

It's perfectly legal in most of Colorado, (not including Denver, of course, the city that wants to be the San Francisco of the Rocky Mountains.)
