Would you agree that there are people out there that are unsafe with firearms?

If so then they should not walk the streets as they can not be trusted to safely handle a firearm. Thats using your logic.

PS:

I think that you should REREAD my first post here.

Another one of those cases where someone thinks that someone meant something which they did not MEAN, write or say.

Best wishes to the TEXAS people for open carry!

I detest elitist anti-gun cops. And I have about as much use for Constables (aka: process servers) as I do nosebleeds, red-light cameras and professional politicians.

Dont let DeLeon's comment give you a bad opinion of Constables in general. I did an college internship with the office of Tarrant County Constable Clint Burgess. I cant speak in regard to other Constables, but Constable Burgess and his deputies do ALOT more than just process service. You wouldnt believe the wide variety of stuff I saw firsthand.

I was so impressed with the experience, that I've decided that someday I'd like to run for office of Constable or Sheriff. These are some great folks, I'd much rather deal with Constables/Sheriffs and their deputies than a municipal cop, any time.

Coincidently, over lunch one day, several of the deputies and myself had a conversation about open carry. They seemed to like the idea.

Signed. :D

Grant,

I'm glad you had a positive experience with the Constable you interned with. But, I must respectfully disagree about "rather dealing with a Constable or Sherriff than a municipal cop, any time."

Twelve years of federal law enforcement experience, all over the country, is what formed my opinion. I found that those LE heads who are elected have one criteria and one criteria only--and that is to get re-elected.

There are some exceptions, of course. Sheriff Joe comes to mind. If all sheriffs were like Sheriff Joe, I'd be more in agreement with you.

For what it's worth, my brethren in the FBI and U.S. Marshals have arrested far too many constables and sheriffs for outright improprieties, illegalities and corruption. I've never had any problems dealing with deputies, but sheriffs--especially in the mid-size to larger cities--were a PITA.

Give me a flatfoot who works the streets any day over a politician with a gun who works the voters.

I'm going to enjoy seeing the open carry people endlessly harassed by LE since they are too cheap, too lazy, or incapable of obtaining a CHL or appropriate concealment clothing and holsters.

Open carry is a crock. Time for me to call my state reps I suppose.

You'll likely be disappointed.

If open carry is passed the harrassment will be short lived if the law is worth the paper it's printed on. Further, I have a CHL so I don't fall into your description of people advocating open carry, how then do you explain my desire to see it happen?

I'd love for you to explain what, exactly, makes open carry "a crock."

By all means, call your reps. on this one and thank you for coming out in opposition to those working in your state to loosen restrictions on gun rights for law abiding citizens. I always like to know who it is actively working against our cause.

Way to stand up and be counted!

Personally, my name is in the first 40 signatures on that petition and I can't wait to see some movement on it. I've been bugging my critters since 2007 for some feedback on the attitudes in Austin about it. So far, I've heard very little pro or con, which is good news.

You will be very disappointed in that it will most likely take place under licensing if it's passed. So all those people who are "...cheap, too lazy, or incapable..." will not be roaming the streets cluttering up your view.

And if it doesn't happen under licensing, that would truly be a shame to have "the wrong kind of people" with guns. I mean... you just can't let "their kind" run around with guns. Should we bring back the Poll Tax so them "wrong people" don't mess things up for the rest of us.

Maybe you should look at how open carry has worked for places where it never became illegal or unusual, like here in Arizona.

It really smells like the idea of open carry bothers you because it threatens your self-image as one of the 'elite' concealed carriers.

Oh yeah, on the subject of open carriers being too cheap to get a permit or quality concealment holsters - you wouldn't believe what I paid for my open carry belt and holster from (ironically) El Paso Saddlery. It cost me almost as much as the gun it holds.

I also do have a ccw, but I enjoy the freedom of not having to keep my gun hidden 100% of the time.

I've open carried in states that allowed it. Or in the case of VA, in states that required it when I went into a restaurant. I also have a CHL, so I must not be too cheap, lazy, or incapable. What's next on your list?

IF, and I stress "IF", that happens... it'll end real quick when Sheriffs and/or DA's fail to get re-elected.

A. What would you know about Law Enforcement in the first place? Obviously you're not in the profession.

B. Will LE endlessly harass open carry folks because they're too "cheap, lazy or incapable" or will they harass them for openly carrying weapons in accordance with the very law they swore to uphold and protect?

Be interested in knowing your response to THAT one.

C. I place elitist gun-owners/CCL holders one half-notch under my contempt for elitist law enforcement. It's the same mentality that favored poll taxes and literacy tests at the voting booth in order to exclude certain segments of American citizens.
