There isn't much of a battle for credit. When Dennis Bonnen as acting Speaker tells Rep. Stickland that OCT is the whole reason he is getting shut down and he is lucky to get what he got on the open house floor, that isn't at all subtle or in keeping with the generally collegial tone of the Texas House. To be fair, Rep. Bonnen didn't seem to much care or appreciate the difference between OCT and OCTC. But even Moms Demand Action didn't get that kind of slapdown despite technically being worse at lobbying than OCT.

I'm glad that there is a group with some passion and determination to make things happen at the Capitol. I'm more than a little disappointed at the way they have directed a lot of their energy; but like we both agree, the C. J. Grisham wing of that is making progress.

It would be nice if Grisham would stop taking potshots at TSRA and Charles Cotton while making deals with Moms Demand Action during the legislative session.

I think the battle is for credit from the public, rather than from the reps, for recruitng purposes fo the next round. And in that there is little bit of competition between OCT and NRA / TSRA. I wish there wern't, but the latter two have been potshooting OCT as well so I guess it goes both ways.

What deal did CJ make with MDA? I hadn't heard about that.

He made a deal with MDA to remove the 30.06 sign and make any "gunbuster" type sign valid (gun silhouette with slash through it) in return for removing any penalties for CHLs violating such signs.

The amendment got shot down; but one of the possible problems with it is that CJ might have shunted CHLs out of the protection of 30.06 and into the general criminal trespass provisions of 30.05 where criminal trespass with a firearm is a Class A felony. So how well the provision would have worked would have depended on both the specific final language and the intentions of the prosecuting attorneys in many locales.

That is one of my many problems with Grisham. On the one hand, he'll fling invective at people like Alice Tripp and Charles Cotton who have freely donated their very valuable (especially in the case of Charles Cotton) time to support the Second Amendment (over decades) and attribute the absolute worst motives to them in any situation; but if Moms Demand Action bats their eyes at them, they don't even think to consider how the proposed deal might actually play out in the real world.

It's probably worth keeping in mind that there is a 'learning curve' for any occupation or project, and activism is no exception. Just like all the various Tea Party groups nominated some real knuckleheads the first and second national elections, they seem to be getting higher and higher quality folks flowing through the ranks with each attempt. The old hands at Brady and establishment political parties, and all their helpers & internal systems, know how and what to do in order to be heard. These newly recognized advocacy groups like OCT who until recently struggled to even be seen in the news require some time to refine their tactics to a 'professional' level and hang with the big boys that make decisions. The unproductive elements (OCTC) get the boot, and the remaining ones hook up with bigger established entities (TSRA?), hopefully not compromising on too many of their principles in the process.

Nothing changes in a vehicle except that if you have a CHL you can carry openly in a belt or shoulder holster.
