Well here in Georgia bow season just opened up this Saturday the 14th. This was my first attempt at hunting deer with a bow. It's a lot tougher than hunting with a gun, but so much more rewarding... I can say I am hooked for life.

Got this Doe at about 8:05pm, made a good heart shot at 35 yards and she only ran about 20 yards.

How has everybody's archery season been going so far?

Sweet. Congrats.
Ours starts the 28th. Hope it begins as successfully as yours did. I'd like to take a couple of big does with a bow so I have some meat in the freezer and can be picky when gun season opens up.

Thanks, Paul

That's my thinking as well, when gun season opens I'll be able to focus more on a good trophy buck.

Wow nice, especially on the first day.
Congrats on having meat in the freezer so soon!

Been out at the stand before 6:00am Sunday and today but nothing in sight.
Really dry around here and we don't hunt near the watering holes during dry spells.
Hope it rains soon!

Way to go, Echo.

I hunt public land and our season opened on the 14th too. I haven't even seen a deer (or hog or turkey) since then. But a friend of mine killed a doe on Sat. on his lease.

Gratz on your first deer! I was out Saturday morning for our opener and saw a 4 point in the morning and in the afternoon saw an adult doe and two yearlings.... all right by the stand just no shooters for me.

First one with the bow is always something to remember for ever again gratz.

Greetings and Congradulations Echo!
Hauling a bow around will sure let you know all about hunting. When I was about 14 dad brought home a Shakespeare 45 pound recurve and I was hooked on playing Robin Hood.
Biggest plus I see now is all the extra hunting days you get to put in without all the woods traffic. Peace and quiet and watching the sun come up.

Congrats Echo.
We don't start here till first week of Oct.

I went to a new archery spot near where I got a rifle doe last season.
Anyway it's really thick. I cleared a shooting lane more than a week ago when the temp was in the mid 40's and went back a couple days ago with my Loggy Bayou (again in 40's--- my kind of temp).

The spot I rifle hunted was clear cut for a gas transmission line so I moved a 100 yds or so into the thick stuff.

Anyway about 7:00 or so I see a small doe.

I fumble with my camera to try to video and I blur up this pic and spook a deer behind her. At least there are deer! I'll go back in a week and scout a bit again. I also spooked a deer in the crosscut just before light so I'm happy to have some around.

Congrats. We open the 28th and I'm out to get my first with a bow in 51 years of deer hunting. I just never had a decent place to bow hunt until recently. Well, I could have, but my other place is a might mosquito infested this time of year. Ain't too bad here and the thermocell will work better.

Enjoy the venison. :D

Thanks guys!

It's a bit hot here too, but lucky we just had a cold front come in and the humidity dropped like a rock, Saturday it was around 30% as apposed to in the 90's like it has been... It was around 59F that morning and never rose above 80F all day.... Gnats and Mosquitos were not too bad, since I was completely covered and had a mesh face mask on.

It was a new spot, impossible to hunt with a rifle due to houses being so close. Seems like everything just came together for a perfect evening. Can't wait to get out there this weekend.

I was getting low on cube steak and sausage, so this gal came just in time :D

Congrats Echo,
Any deer with a bow is a trophy in my book. We don't start till Oct 1 here. I have two friends I introduced into hunting last year. Neither took a deer though. Did some good scouting this year and got their stands hung this week. Got several deer on their new trail cams. They are so excited all they talk about is opening day. I did my best to make them scout and hang their own stands (but I was a little influential). I don't care if I kill one or not. If they succeed it will be my best year ever. Congrats again.

As mentioned any deer with a bow is a trophy.

Me, I was practicing weekend before last at 20yds with my filed points screwed in, and I did something I usually NEVER do, I shot a group of 5.

The grandson went out to pull for me and hollered back, pawpaw you prolly shouldn't do that anymore as he picked up one of the blazers off the ground. Turned out I ripped the ones on three other arrows as well. All five were within just about a quarter sized group. I hauled them all home for repair and inspection. I only use that bow for hogs so I wasn't overly worried about the fletching, but I did give them al la good slow twist and drag with an old hose looking for splits.

I did get them all refletched with new blazers and even matched them up with the broadheads this time so maybe they will fly a bit straighter. :D

Awesome. I've yet to skewer one. Haven't had a chance to go yet, but its on my list. I carry my 10mm as well incase I run into some hogs. Carrying a firearm is legal so long as its your "concealed" weapon and you have your permit. :p

I had 4 does and a decent buck within 40 ft of me Thursday morning. If I didn't have to walk another 25 ft to my pick-up and go play with an airplane I might have taken one. It's too expensive hitting them pulling out of my driveway.

To the OP, nice kill, you should have plenty of good eating this winter.

That's awesome! Congrats! To take a deer with a bow?! Danged impressive!
