Got a question on what is involved in opening the chokes on a SxS. I have set of barrels that are choked mod and full and I would like to have them opened up to IC and SK. What is involved in this process. If the barrels are chrome lined do they need to be re-lined? Is there any modification to the outside of the barrels?
Second set of questions, I have 2 of the same models SxS and want to use either set of barrels (one choked M/F and the other IC/SK) on either reciver (one has a pistol grip stock and the other has an english straight stock) depending on the conditions. Right now the barrels will fit on the different recievers and close but not lock up. What would be involved in making this work? I assume that barrels A will have to be fitted to reciver B and reciver A will have to be modified to be identical to reciver B. Any advice as to how much a job like this would run?
Also any suggestions of people in northern virginia that do this kind of work?
thanks
Jim

Chokes are opened with an adjustable choke reamer.

Chrome lining makes a difficult job out of it because the chrome is too hard for most reamers to tackle.

Far as I know, there would be no reasonable way to re-chrome them after reaming, but there is probably someone like Briley who can do it with enough money thrown at it.

Fitting two sets of barrels to one action is a fairly simple matter.

But fitting both sets of barrels to both actions would be a real major job for even a best English gunmaker!
I'd have to doubt it is really very feasible.
Eventually, different wear patterns would take it's toll somewhere on something, and result in a mis-fitting mess.

I would call and talk to Briley about it. I had a guy butcher some chrome lined barrels for me a few years ago. He swore he'd done chrome lined barrels befor( I guess he butchered them too) but he screwed mine up. The reamer cut uneven and the chokes ended up off center.
