I bought this gun used and was wondering if its been refinished. My friend purchased it used as well and he said the dealer told him that it may have been refinished. What leads me to believe it has is the fact that other people's pics of this pistol show the underside of the muzzle and front strap to be the dull matte look, like what's on the top of the slide where the sights are. My pistol is high polish blue all over except for the nickel plated grip safety, thumb safety, slide stop, etc. Again, this is how I purchased the firearm. I haven't did anything to it except carry it and shoot it. The guy I bought it from said that all the aftermarket parts look like Wilson Combat parts but I'm not sure. I know that to a collector, refinishing will diminish the value but I see a lot of people doing it and I don't plan on getting rid of it. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any advice.

It's a Kimber, it has NO collectibility. Refinish it to your specs and shoot it.

From what I understand, some of the earlier Kimbers are actually collectible. That's what I thought anyways.

What areas gave you that impression?

The the right side edge of the dust cover looks "broken", the muzzle end of the slide appears to have been deeply pitted, buffed, and then blued. None of which should affect function or safety.

Have it checked out by a gunsmith if you have concerns.

I don't have any concerns, I was just wondering if its a bad thing that it was refinished. It must be the pics giving you that impression on broken and pitted, because in person its beautiful with hardly a flaw. Thanks for your input though.

From the photos you posted it appears that the slide rusted, then it was polished, buffed and blued.

I would say it's worth 1/2 of what a 95% gun would bring.

How much did you pay for the pistol?

Must be shadow because there are no signs of it ever rusting. It was probably buffed before being refinished. In person and in other photos people are amazed at the finish and the appearance of the pistol. Must be the lighting in the photos.

The second set of pictures does present the gun in a better light.

Giving it the benefit of a doubt that it wasn't a Bubba'd melt job and just a over zealous buff with a power wheel, the re-finish really hurt any collector value it might have had. All the edges that should be sharp have been rounded and yet they didn't bevel any of the edges one would address in a Carry Bevel...and they didn't address possible snagging corners.

The blue looks to be pretty thin to show that kind of wear in the front strap or the former owner had highly acidic sweat.

I'd agree that it like has a value of about 50% of an un-refinished gun. The good thing is that it still has value as a shooter and you can't really hurt it's value much more
