Looking for a cheap plastic 9mm to hold me over until my Ruger 1911 comes in. I was all ready to pull the trigger on a great deal on a Sig 2022 and the seller was out of the regular sight models. Now I'm back looking around and I found a deal for $299 for a brand new 809. I really want the 9mm long term so my wife can shoot it. I know Taurus isn't well liked around here but I had a raging bull and it was a pretty good gun. I know it's no Cadillac but how are the ergo's on it and will it be reliable and shoot well? I can still pick up a Sig 2022 to my door for $375 so that is still an option.

I figured I'd get that type of response.

What gun is the Taurus 809 modeled after? I know most of their guns are just copies of someone elses design.

Here's the other side of the coin.
PT809 series and kin.

There are other links in the link itself that need to be looked at.

considering buying a new pt809 compact. got a question

i am the proud owner of a 24/7 ds 9mm and love it. it is currently my carry weapon but sometimes a 4in is a little big especially with 17+1. i am looking into getting a 809 compact for something a little more size efficient. i know its supposed to be based off the 24/7 and was wondering if it can share the same holsters, specifically my CBST i already have my for my 24/7. its not going to sway my decision if it doesnt, but will certainly if it does fit securely.

i tried looking for this answer but didnt find anything. feel free to link to another thread if there is one to save your fingers.

The 809C looks very similar to the G2's in ergonomics and slide, so there's a possibility that it will fit with a little extra room to spare.

Considering the G2's are basically the hybrid of the 800's, 24/7, and 24/7 OSS, the dimensions are comparable to each other. The main differences on the older ones and G2's is simply the cutouts and etching. Since the 809C doesn't appear to have a rail on Taurus's site, that's probably where you'll get the extra wiggle room to use the same holster.

Something i would consider, if i were buying a new gun is to look at the PT740, or the 709 that is 9mm / keepin ammo the same. Would not let a holster influence my decision on a gun one way or the other....course i like stuff..... seems if the dimensions are comparable your not going to gain much, but if it is the compact version of what you have might be just what your looking for..... just my thoughts.

As I get older and my eyes get oldre with me, I see the madness behind crimson trace.....

Would I jump in front of a bullet for you... nope ... if I have time to jump in front of it, you have time to jump out of the way...

I show my Kimber to my friends..... what I do not show is the Taurus in my cc holster.....

What I am considering is the 809 and the 709. I haven't decided on either but was going to order a holster at the same time. If I canuse the CBST I already have then it wouldn't be smart to order another holster too.

"Size efficient" is a relative term.

A pebble is tiny, until it gets stuck in one's shoe; then it feels like a boulder.

With a proper fitting holster and properly selected covering garments, one can comfortably conceal a pretty good sized handgun.

I have larger hands and don't know how well a 709 would fit me, but I have shot comparably sized other guns to the 809 without a problem. I know I should hold and try to shoot the 709 before making my decision final. I already carry a 4in 24/7 so I'm just looking

Let's just say which ever pistol fits you and your needs better is the one to get. Try them both out if possible and then pick.
