Opinions On Gold Guns?

Saw a used gold and tiger striped Desert Eagle on consignment at my favorite gun store. Pointed to it and told the store employee how hideous it looked. He said this is the third time they are selling that same exact serial numbered gun. Original owner and current owner each bought it, got laughed at by their buddies, and then wanted to get rid of it.

I am happy to see that this thread is still unlocked so that I can chime in.

Within every culture you will find people that understand the subtlety of style, and people who think that more is always better.

I think a gold ring can be stylish and classy, but you would never see me wearing a five pound gold chain around my neck.

That goes for guns too. Accents look good and even the slide can look great if it's done well. Those nasty wavy plastic looking gold plate jobs look gaudy though.

A small dealer friend and I (also small dealer) , got together to start a gun show. During our first show an elderly lady stopped in to get some guns appraised. Her husband had passed and he had several rare handguns. 6 or 7 guns in all including a P08 Luger, WWI vintage Model 1911 military, A nice little PPK, and a few others.
Her husband had been very proud of these guns and also had let her know they were scarce, collectable, and expensive.

When I opened the case I abought had a coronary - He had had them all Gold plated !!!!!!

On a tru BBG gun I don't mind a little gold as in a nice inlay, or a distinquished boarder for highlighting.

A complete gold plate - mostly :barf:

How do you cheapen a Glock? It's plastic for the most part anyway?

How do you double the value of a Yugo.....Fill the tank with gas!

SAME-SAME

I kinda like the "gold" controls of the gun here:

Although I gotta say, I like the silver/black combo better. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the gun owner.

My Bulgarian Makarov has a deep red hammer and safety/decocker. All factory. I like the contrast. Does that make me a third rate pimp?
No. It means that you have one of yeah-many-gazillion Bulgarian PMs on which the hammer and safety have "plummed". Very, very typical of the beasts. (But that's not to say that you're not a third rate pimp. ;) )

Isn't being a third rate pimp bad as it is not like his typical pistol?
He wouldn't be a pimp at all with his gun because its typical but he could be third rate one with a gold one.

If you get a gold gun you should replace the night sights with a diamond front dot and ruby or emerald back dots, just fittin yu know!

I have several guns that the majority here would consider "pimp or South American dictator" guns. The good news is I really don't care a bit about their view of my guns.

Pistols like the CZ75 30th Anniversary model, or my Sig X6 Scandic, and even my Renaissance grade Browning 1971, rifles like my grade 3 & 4 BAR's, shotguns like my Benelli with the gold inlaid game scenes.

Many people just think of guns as shovels that go bang, and they can keep buying Glocks and Mossbergs. Some of us see a mechanical marvel that can be decorated however we want, and we will continue to buy whatever we want and can afford.

But please, just because you only buy ugly soulless guns, don't think that makes you some kind of super tactical ninja operator that is somehow better than everyone else. It just means you have no appreciation of art or style. Sure, there are guns that even I consider overdone, but I just have my own idea of good taste and wouldn't dream of trying to push my preferences on others, or denigrating what someone else considers attractive.

Not my cup O tea, but to each his own.

I personally think 2 tone handguns look terrible, but others obviously disagree.

And don't even get me started on blued or parkerized 1911s with a shiny stainless barrel bushing flashing sunlight at the bad guy.... lol

It really doesn't matter what we think. Buy what appeals to ya, and enjoy it.
