I think the '92' looks and handles better than the '94'. Take a look at the Puma 92 from Legacy Sports.

Check the Big 5 adds in your area they run a sale on a Marlin lever in 38spl/357mag every so often. Plain wood great price.

The only downside to the Brownings is they cost as much as an original Winchester. My Navy Arms cost me about 1/4.

If you're looking for something moderately powered, and cheap to shoot, you may want to look at something in 7.62x39. Just for something cheap to shoot, maybe a 9mm carbine. (Assuming you already have a .22LR)
