I am looking to get a new compact 9mm for range use and carry. I already have a subcompact (CZ RAMI) which I have had for about a year. I love the RAMI, but now I'm looking for something a little bigger with greater capacity.

Naturally the CZ line was of interest, and the P-07 has attracted me both for the price (~$400) and the reviews I've found online.

So, for those who have a P-07, what do you think of it? Holster availability and longer term reliability?

Thanks!

>> And before somebody suggests it, I don't like the G19 :uhoh:. They just don't fit my hand.

I've handled one at work a lot. I want one, it feels really good in my hand and it's a good size, if a little thick in the slide. It also of course has CZ's low bore axis.

The trigger feels really mushy, but I've heard that goes away after a few boxes of ammo. One downside is that the texture on the grip is really rough. If you carry it IWB and the grip is touching your side (or back, or whatever), it might rub your skin raw.

i have just sold my po7 duty, only to fund my new pistol the cz spo7 which only a limited number of 50 will ever be made. first production po7 run was in march 2009, got mine in april 09. to this day put more than 1k rounds through it no problems other than repainting the front sight. the trigger is awesome once broken in SA is probably like 4-5 lbs. and have noticed the barrel seems thicker as compared to my friends cz75 2 tone. i put an uncle mikes grip which feels better for me. for a compact polymer pistol its built like a tank and very accurate for a short barrel. and if you want more knock down power they have the p07 in .40 cal.:)

Thanks guys. I wear an undershirt 99% of the time, so hopefully that will be enough to protect me from the cheese-grater grip. But that UM grip sleeve looks like it would be nice. Might have to try that out.

What do you guys use for holsters? From what I'm seeing, looking like only HighNoon and CZ have holsters for the P-07. What do you use and do you like yous?

Also, how's the DA pull? The one I handled in the store had an AMAZING SA pull, but the DA pull was extremely heavy (worse than my RAMI) and it was pretty gritty. Is this normal / does it go away?

Ok, so I went to the toy store again today and was torn between the P-07 and P-01. After playing with them for almost an hour, I have to say, that checkering is aggressive!

But, it seems to me like the P-01 fits my hand a little bit better, with the 07 not far behind. However, I definitely like the trigger on the 07 better, as well as the extra capacity. The p-07's sights were also easier for me to pick up when I would simulate fast shooting. I have to say, the 'field-goal' sights worked out really well for that, I was surprised.

Both guns passed the 'close your eyes, raise the gun, then open your eyes' test. However, a slight edge to the P-07. The wider sight channel was much faster to realign if I was off by a little, whereas the P-01 had to be spot on or I couldn't find the front sight.

So, no decision yet, but I'm really thinking the P-07. I find it really had to convince myself that the marginal increase in fit is worth an extra $180.

I have a P01 and my friend has a P07. Pluses and minuses for each. But if I had to choose only one, I would stick with the P01.

Mine is a earlier production one. I've only got about 700 rounds thru mine. So far it has been perfect as far as feed and extraction. I have had the rear sight come loose. I've fixed it for now but plan on sending it back to CZ in the next year after I get some more rounds thru it to see how it does. Other than the sight issue I like the P-07, it seems to shoot very well for me. I really like the feel of the grip of the P-07.

I'm actually using a Galco Belt holster that was designed for a P226. It has more depth than it needs for the slide but is otherwise fine. I already had it so the price was right.

The newly introduced P-07s in .40 are running well.

The 9mms are getting better.

Good ergonomics, but not that much better than a P-01.

Omega trigger is good in both DA and SA.

I'd rather have a P-07 in any caliber than a CZ100 or SIGMA.

A P-07 in .40 S&W was an option for me, but I'm not really a fan of
recoil in Forty with a polymer trigger.

The new P-06 seemed like a better choice.

I only have one opinion on the P-07....

I want one! BAD.

Call me newfangled, but there are some tupperguns out there that really strike my fancy. Last time I went out to buy some new plasticware I came real close to bringing home a P-07, but I needed a Walther PPS. So I got the PPS and have zero regrets, but I still need a P-07 at some point soon.

So in other words, I say you should get it. I've never heard any bad reviews, and they look/shoot sweet.

Well... I guess I'll be the bad guy. First off, I love CZs. My 75B was my first handgun, and would be one of the last I'd ever part with. But as far as the P-07...

Owned one for about a year. Bought it new last summer, whatever "run" that would have been. It was one of those guns that I really liked, but the "little things" about it started to bother me. Guess I'll just list the good and the bad. My opinions only, YMMV.

The Good:
-CZ ergos are great. Recoil was super soft. Just felt great to shoot. (Don't want to understate this: It was a fantastic gun to shoot compared to other plastic 9mm's). I've shot dozens of plastic 9's, and no others came close to this one, at least for me.
-Trigger started OK and ended up pretty good after a couple hundred rounds.
-Not sure how they fit 16+1 into such a small grip. Helps with concealability.
-Controls are reachable even for medium-sized hands, including the hammer. I could do everything with this gun one-handed comfortably, and I can't do that with a lot of "full" sized guns.

The Bad:
-Front sight "paint" came off when reholstering. It's really just a white strip adhered to the plastic. With Elmer's Glue Stick, apparently. The sights are not up to par with the rest of the gun. CZ definitely skimped here. The sights are cheap crap, period.
-The checkering is sharp, but that wasn't the problem I had while carrying... it was the rear sight. The rear sight will practically tear a hole in your skin if you don't have it covered with leather. A t-shirt was not enough to make this comfortable for me. Maybe a skinny guy would have better luck. I suppose you could file off the corners, but I don't like to take files to the exteriors of guns, as a general rule.
-Holster selection is poor. You can either overpay for an average plastic CZ brand holster, bite the bullet and pay for a Hazel Leather Holster, or use a generic.
-Mags are expensive, and there is no quality off-brand that I am aware of (MecGar, etc.). I like having extra magazines, but couldn't afford to stock up on these the way I would have liked to.

In sum, I really liked this gun for a while. Still do, actually. But I became frustrated enough with the bad holster/magazine/aftermarket product selection and the sharp edges that, when the front sight paint fell off, I had had enough.

I may own one again someday, if the aftermarket catches on and holsters and magazines become more widely available. If not, I'll probably be in the market for a G19 instead. If the frustrations I mentioned don't sound like things that would bother you, then the P-07 may be right up your alley. Functionally, it is far, far above average.

Next to the Sig P226, its my most favorite gun I've ever shot. Definitely my most favorite I've owned. Recoil is nice and manageable due to the light slide and great ergos. Very accurate. I like it so much that I'm probably going to get one in .40 as well.

The poster above me went over just about every negative that I'd bring up, and I couldn't agree more.
