Opinions wanted - was I unreasonable re: an online purchase?

I guess I was a bit unreasonable and I wish I'd first consulted THR about how long I might expect an online transaction to take. I honestly thought 10 days would be more than sufficient, but obviously not. Lesson learned.

I am always impressed by someone who can make a mistake, and then learn from it. :cool:

Ground shipping via UPS- figure 1 day, plus 1 day per time zone, weather permitting.
Order processing and payment- figure another 2 days.
You put your order in on a Wednesday (because order placed after close of business Tuesday doesn't count)

That means in a perfect world your gun would not be in your hands until the next Wednesday. Then add the 4-5 days behind- you should not have expected it for 10 working days. That's two weeks.

Anybody recall back in the day- when you ordered something, they said "Please allow 8-10 weeks for delivery"? We've come a long way but it's not perfect, especially when there's BATFE and other .gov considerations.

Who was this seller?

I purposely did not name the seller in my original post and I prefer not to now, as this wasn't really about them. I did notice this morning that their homepage has a notice to expect shipping delays of 5-6 business days. I don't know if that was there last week when I ordered or not; maybe it was and I just didn't see it.

In any event, as I've said, I'm chalking this up to "lesson learned" and moving on.

on the other hand--i ordered by phone from H&K Specialist on friday. i happened to mention it was a birthday present for myself. i get a e-mail to confirm and on monday anothere-mail with routing info. said it will be here tuesday.
tuesday e-mail says--delivered; i phone my ffl and drive over.

elapsed time for a handgun from KY to my hands in CT: 3 days 21 hours.

so now it will sound odd when i agree that you were impatient cause they told you they were behind and really, that is what it comes down to.

I've only bought a rifle on line, once. I clicked the 'buy it now' on Gunbroker on a Monday night. A local shop faxed their FFL to the seller on Tuesday morning. Two hours later, I called the seller, and made the purchase over the phone. It was shipped that day from WI, and I picked it up at my local shop in IN two days later.

Interesting follow up to this story.

After admitting the error of my ways and moving on, I was making the website rounds on my lunch hour and noticed that the vendor from whom I bought my Mosin-Nagant had just posted a fresh batch of SKS's for sale at a comparable price to the one I canceled. I went ahead and ordered one, with no expectations (or urgency) of when it might arrive. This was Feb 16.

Last night, Feb 22, just as I got home and was about to bring the garbage can in, the UPS truck pulls up and delivers the gun. 6 days after ordering (and that's 6 calendar days, not 6 business days). Impressive.

Of course, it'll sit in a box in the garage for the next 3 months, but that's OK I guess.

Amazon was mentioned earlier as an example of fast service. Part of the reason for their speedy delivery is because there is a warehouse near you.

USA:
Phoenix and Goodyear, AZ;
New Castle, DE;
Whitestown and Plainfield, IN;
Coffeyville, KS;
Campbellsville, Hebron (near Cincinnati), Lexington and Louisville, KY;

I've waited YEARS, plural, for some guns -- I'm not kidding. Days?

That's what your local gun store is for!

PS: Come to think of it, I've waited as long as 16 months for AMMO I ordered!
