Options for left-hand bolt action

Most shooters don't operate a bolt action rifle efficiently be they right or left handed. I've witnessed a lot of the head coming of the stock and or the shoulder while awkwardly manipulating the bolt. My across the course target rifle is a Remington 40X LH and the hunting rifle is a Winchester ( USRA-Mfg.) LH. Its a right handed dominated world but on the other hand I don't need a right handed person telling me how much easer it would be if I just learned how to shoot right handed. I never fired a center fire rifle till Parris Island qualifying Expert with the M14 but at ITR we were issued the M1 so I became a recipient of M1 thumb.

Savage and Tikka are your most common options. Both will shoot straight and the Savage will be cheaper. The tikka is much nicer though. If you can swing the extra cash, I'd take it over the Savage any day. Assuming you can find one. Sometimes!es left tikkas can be scarce.

I am right handed but left eye dominant. I also have another unusual problem in that I can close my right eye and keep the left open but I can't close my left eye and keep my right eye open. I began shooting left handed with my first rifle, a used Remington 22 Mod 510 P in 1958. The Marine Corps was no exception. The below image is the Edson Range, Camp Pendleton CA on qualification day May 1969. I am the shooter on the right at the 500 meter line in the prone position and yes, left hand M14. Later in Nam again left hand but M16.

When I pick up a rifle today it instinctively is placed in my left shoulder. It just comes naturally and mastering a bolt on a right hand rifle again, just comes naturally. I have never had a problem but given a choice I prefer a left handed gun in bolt action. There are plenty out there to be had.
