Clackamas Community College has accepted an offer from the Clackamas Board of County Commissioners to take over the bond payments for the Public Safety Training Center, essentially purchasing that indoor range facility.

Members of the command staff of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office have expressed to the Commission the desire to have the facility made into one for the exclusive use of law enforcement. Two of the three county commissioners support maintaining public access.

If you have used, are using, would like to be able to use the PSTC in the future please contact the commission and let them know your opinion.

TIA

I think that they have been trying to make it LE only for a few years now.

Not true. There's Johnson Creek Gun Club.

There's Douglas Ridge. And Tri-County (never been there yet). There's a close-in NE PDX indoor range. And, more.

And, of course, there's always the "Dump".

I don't shoot at (OR ) Clackamas PSTC Indoor Range because I have to buy their ammo. THAT sucks!. Hear it's a nice facility though.

There's a Dump shoot scheduled for tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Come on up. :)

Carlos,

Johnson creek is a little spendy for me right now.

Douglas ridge is nice but if I'm going to drive that far I'll just head on out to the dump.

I haven't been to tri county either but hear it's nice.

I think the range you are thinking about by pdx is The place to shoot. It's actually close to the horse track. Not a bad place.

The pstc is pretty close to me and I didn't mind using their ammo to much. They don't gouge on the prices and most of the people there know what they are talking about.

When I got my Ruger P90 I went there to break it in. I was shooting low and left. One of the guys said to put a little more finger on the trigger. Fixed the problem right up.

I Can't make it to the dump tomorrow, to much going on. I will make it one of these days, I look forward to meeting you and some of the others from THR.

Hope you have fun.

Maybe next time, DM?

Johnson creek is a little spendy for me right now.

$100 a year ain't too bad. Cardkey access, and you can shoot until 10:00 p.m. 7 days a week. The only real busy times are on Saturdays, when they hold classes. All this right in the metropolitan Portland area.

Douglas ridge is nice but if I'm going to drive that far I'll just head on out to the dump.

Well, Douglas Ridge is exactly 20 miles from my house. The Dump is 40.

I haven't been to tri county either but hear it's nice.

I'm going to get there this year. From what I hear, probably the nicest range in the area.

I think the range you are thinking about by pdx is The place to shoot. It's actually close to the horse track. Not a bad place.

I'm talking about a little range up somewheres right off the 60th and Glisan area, pretty close, or abutting I84. A friend of mine who died last year (around November) :( went there. Never got a chance to shoot with him there. He was pretty happy with the place.

There's also Portland Gun Club, off 174th and Powell, but it's mainly a shotgun paradise.

Regards.

We really do need some more ranges in Oregon.

The Place to Shoot is nice, but it is a long drive since I live in Beaverton. I have heard that Tri-County is nice too, but the initiation fee is like $175, plus range dues for the year. I could buy a new rifle for that much.

Where I grew up, we had a couple of nice ranges, all within 20-30 minutes, and you only had to pay I think about $5 to use the range all day.

Wish we had that here.

I was going to place to shoot but the daily range fees were getting too expensive. $35-50 per week.

I joined Johnson Creek and there are no range fees. Just yearly member ship which works out to about $8 per month.

Cant beat that. Only thing I don't like about JC is the few times I have been there since joining, no one cleans up their brass or targets. Each time I was there I ended up pulling in 4 targets and about 3 dustpans FULL of brass.

I hate lazy people.

Hello.

That's too bad if they close it to mere civilians.

Where is this 'dump' that you folks are talking about?

I'm a member of tri-county. It can be nice, but it is very expensive. You can bring up to 5 guests, however. The only thing I really don't like is the outside pistol range is limited to 25 or 50 yards. Plus you have to wait for the line to go cold before you can check on your target or put a target up.

So, how does one contact the Clackamas Board of County Commissioners?

There ia always "English Pit" up in Vancouver. It's in an old garvel pit out east of town and is operated by Clark County. I live in SE Portland and I can be there in 20 minutes. It costs $10 a year plus $4 each time you use it. It has several ranges, from pistol, thru smallbore rifle to a 100 yard range for larger rifles. During the winter months it's only open on weekends but in the summertime they run it six days a week.

I belong to JC Gunclub and find it very worthwhile. If there was some way to fire my .308 there I wouldn't have to go anywhere else.

I know that this is an old thread - but is the Clackamas Range still open to the public?

Hmm, good question.

I'm actually going to go shooting with a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy one day soon, so I'll ask her.

The only thing that's kept me away from the place is their requirement to buy their ammo.

Raven,

Yes, it's still open. Go to the web for hours.

The big change is that it is no longer part of Clackamas Community College but is now run by the sheriffs department.

A friend of mine shot there last night.

Raven,

I shoot there about once a week. I'm a fairly new shooter and I have found the rangemasters to be great guys and very helpful. One of them is arranging for me to shoot a gun that belongs to a friend of his because I showed interest in it and it's not available for rent there.

The link to the website with their hours and phone number is below.

Have fun.
