This may be posted in the wrong forum, if so, sorry.

There is an upcoming Palm Beach County hearing on a proposed new out door public shooting range. All interested parties are strongly encouraged to attend. I guess the Sheriff's Office will finally get their range to themselves.

Maybe we can get a pistol range!!!

I am not in Florida, but whoever is, please refer your elected officials to http://www.heartlandpublicshootingpark.com/. HPSP is a municipal shooting range located in Grand Island, Nebraska. The facility is amazingly clean and safe with 25 and 50 yd pistol ranges; 100, 200, 300, & 600 yard rifle ranges; and skeet, sporting clays, and trap ranges for shotguns. Many local high schools bring their teams there to practice and compete.

The current mayor of Grand Island is Margaret Hornady of Hornady Ammunition. He helped push the park expansion while she was city council president.

I visited that website.

I like that they list "Model Airplane Flying Club" s one of their amenities.

:D Is that for shotgun practice?

A little info on the range.

In Palm Beach County, the county commissoners set aside 1.5 million in the 90's to build a range for the public.
Since the commissioners are an anti gun bunch, they decided to spend the money on improvements to the Sheriff's range.

After that they invited the public to shoot 1 weekend a month and sometimes that was canceled, under the strong arm of the Sheriff's range goons who treated the general public like complete baboons.

One incident included one of the range goons wasn't paying attention on a cold line where his 10 year old kid was.
After calling the range hot, he quickly discovered the kid playing behind some of the targets down range and franticaly called the range cold again and preceeded to yell and berate the guys who quickly were ready to fire for not seeing his kid first. One shooter told the goon where to get off and that if he had a stupid kid like his son, he wouldn't bring him to the range and they escorted the shooter off the range property. After that we all left.

We used to hold high power shoots there till most got so tired of the abuse from the range goons that most quit shooting there.
No handguns were allowed, only long and no exotic weapons.

Numerous folks petitioned the state to step in and find out what happened to the money that was designated for a PUBLIC range.

This new range is a product of the Florida Game Commission and has nothing what so ever to do with local politicians, one of whom has already been indicted by the feds and they are looking and investigating the whole county commission.

This should be a real good place with trap, skeet, cowboy action, pistol, rifle and bow.

This has been an effort by about 10 people who have not given up over the last 8 years to get a public range in Palm Beach County.

...and I applaud and appreciate your persistent efforts. I hope to meet you there.

Nice...

When they build it, I will come. A completely brand new public range in FL puts a smile on my face. If only it were in Orlando, but we need to build a new arena for the less-than-Magic and a new Performing Arts Center:barf:.
Oh well, turnpike here I come.

come one come all...

Frustrated gun owners take aim at Palm Beach County for delayed shooting range (link)

Hundreds of hunters and gun owners packed a Palm Beach County meeting Tuesday night to rally for a shooting range that's been more than a decade in the works.

But many left frustrated with county officials' answers to two big uncertainties that could leave gun enthusiasts with no public place to practice their marksmanship for years to come: money, and a lengthy design and construction process.

The county administrators seem to be up to their old tricks, saying they really don't care what we want. They seem to think that all we deserve is what they choose to give us. Remember this next election cycle!

I love public ranges because they're FREE. Did I mention that they're FREE?
The one in Lake City, FL has pretty nice facilities and is from pistol to 200 yards.

Markham Park, which is outside of Weston, FL, is the only public range I know of in Broward Cty and it is like $8 to get in. A more than fair price as the ROs there keep the knuckleheads in line.
