Dear Mr. Smith:
Congratulations. Due to your vote for the Assault Weapons Ban renewal amendment to S. 1805 today, I will never vote for you again. If you thought that some Clintonian “triangulation†of voting for both the AWB and the gun lawsuit immunity bill would prove you a friend of the law-abiding gun owner in Oregon, you are sorely mistaken. I do not care if the AWB amendment is stripped out in conference through some cynical ploy at appearing a “moderate.†As far as I am concerned you have shown your true colors by not understanding as simple a phrase as “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.â€
In voting like a clueless Democrat on this core conservative issue, you have made it amply clear that there is not really any point to supporting you over any Democratic rival. If you are not a reliable vote on important Republican policy positions, I have to ask, what makes you any more a Republican on gun issues than Mr. Ron Wyden, the unabashed liberal from Portland who purports to represent ALL of Oregon too? Oregon doesn’t have an AWB for the very reason that most states think the ban is stupid public policy based on the mere appearance of a normally operating semi-automatic rifle. Evidently, pandering to the know-nothings about scary firearms is more important to you than truth or logic.
If you’d like to exclusively represent Portland as a RINO, or Republican In Name Only, I suggest you resign your seat and run against Mr. Blumenauer for the 3rd District of Oregon for the House of Representatives.
Forever not your future voter,
Eric Jensen
