so i have a sti spartan 1911 and i love it, it feels good, shoots great and and i love the trigger. but it is a little too heavy for a carry pistol, it has a fairly low mag cap and it is finished in a hi gloss blue so it lots of use wears down the bluing. are there other lighter, smaller, polymer framed pistols (other than compact 1911's) that have a single action only trigger? thanks for the help

Bul is my favorite in that catagory - 12 rounds in a Commander size, stainless slide, Hi-cap poly frame, handles like a Colt

The Sig P220 SAO is not exactly High Cap but it is a great, reliable, lightweight 45 that is single action only

The H & K USP Variant 9 is .45 has 10 or 12-round mags and is a lightweight polymer. Variant 10 is for lefties.

It can be carried hammer down with the safety off or hammer back in single action with the safety on like a 1911.

Another good one is the Springfield XD .45 with barrel lengths of 4" or 5". This has no hammer and is a Striker fire, but it is single action only.

Para Ordnance P-12 holds 12+1 and has a dandy trigger from the factory.

If you like STI you could get the LS9. It's not a polymer frame but it's fairly lightweight and compact.

The Springfield EMP would fall into the same category.

CZ RAMI. Technically it's not a SAO gun of course but since it has no decocker and a manual thumb safety, it can be carried cocked and locked and you don't ever have to use the double action trigger. It's super compact and you can get it with a polymer or alloy frame.

HK offers several pistols that come in versions that can be carried cocked and locked also.

The action does not cock the striker but many still consider it a DA pistol. IMHO the feel of the trigger is very different than other Hammer type SA triggers. It is mushy compared to the BHP, 1911, BDA etc...

It really is single action, but I will admit that the trigger is nothing like a 1911. I has a bit of take-up and is kind of:

I was simply listing lightweight polymer .45s that were single action.

Ohh, It would not be my first choice but Taurus has a line that is technically DA/SA, but it is impossible to fire them double action unless you get a light hit on a primer; then it has a double action function, I think they call it "second strike capability." You can pull the trigger again in DA with a tougher pull and see if it fires the stubborn primer.

From a 3.25" barrel to a 5.25" barrel

For the 5.25 inch look at 24/7 OSS pistols

I could be wrong but I believe the striker is not 100% cocked on the XD. It's 90something% cocked which does not make it a true SA. Besides, it's sort of a different animal anyways.

Atomd, actually I do remember reading somewhere that it is 90% cocked or something.

However, I have a glock and an XD and the XD's trigger is lighter, or at least feels that way.

You're thinking of Glocks. The XDs are 100% cocked by the action. Supposedly they have been excluded from contention for some police contracts due to a No Single Action guns requirement.

I thought the OP was "other single actions"....If I am wrong,oh well;but I was going to recommend a hand select Tokarev....pretty good for the budget conscious as well.

one thing i've always wondered is can the tokarev be carried with the hammer cocked?

i feel that what the young man needs is some trigger time behind something like the glock 19 that has had the trigger done right. my glock 30 has the trigger done right and now feels like a single action. you will never get the 1911 "feel" with a pivoting trigger but you can come very close and have all the benefits of a gun like the glock. i'm not sure, but check out the BUL Cherokee in standard barrel length or compact. there is just something exceedingly cool about that gun. ANYBODY HAVE ONE?

It can be carried 1/2 cocked, but I do not think it can be safely carried fully cocked due to the add on safety... Anybody carry it fully cocked?

CZ makes a Compact that you can shoot either DA/SA or cocked and locked. The USP Compact can be had with the choice of DA/SA or cocked and locked also. Argentina FM Hi Powers (Detective Model) cocked and locked. Actuall quite a few.

I carry the Yugo M57 fully cocked and locked. The add on safety actually works, and functions like the 1911 manual safety. I used to carry a Chinese and a Romanian on half-cock before I got the Yugo's.

I don't want to stray too much off topic, but I checked the XD and the BATF designates it as single action as the striker is fully cocked whereas the Glock is not. I do remember reading somewhere that some claim that it isn't truly 100% cocked, but almost 100%...close enough for the ATF to designate it a SA. 99% or 100%....doesn't make much of a difference anyways.

I think we have a problem here....they don't make enough SAO pistols! :D

Check out the FNP-9. Polymer gun with a 4" barrel and can be had with 10 or 16 rnd mags. I have the SAO variant (single action only) and the trigger is excellent. Can't compare to a 1911 since I haven't shot one (just bought one, 1911 in 9mm)
