Good job. The only thing that matters is neither you nor your family is hurt. Maybe the guy will have a moment of pause the next time he pulls that crap at someone elses house.

You made a good call not shooting the guy in front of your kid. It was a good choice, IMO.

Yet another example on how the mere presentation of a firearm thwarts a crime in progress. You should send this to the NRA "armed citizen" column.

I am extremely impressed. I don't know if I would have been able to withhold if someone was able to overpower me and force his way into my home.

I would have considered that dissparity of force, and things might have gone different.

Good job on protecting your family.

I had a similar thing happen almost 20 years ago when I lived in Melbourne, FL. Thought I heard the front door jiggle. Through the peephole saw a tattoed "skinhead" acting strangely in the hallway of the apartment complex. I decided he was probably knocking on the door of the college kids that lived across the hallway, but went to the bedroom nightstand to get the Charter Arms 44 Spl because the hair on the back of my neck was standing up. As I was leaving the BR, he busted in the front door and was running toward me. I could not tell if he had any weapons and I seemed to fumble forever with the zipper on the gun case. I finally got the gun out and he did an immediate turn-about and ran as I was bringing it up. I called the police and they said that if they had to write a report, my gun would be confiscated for being at a crime scene and I would not get it back. I asked them "what if he comes back?" and they said "you call us". We decided to agree that nothing happened and, as a consequence, I had to pay for all repairs to the door since the apartment complex required a police report to prove a crime.

Good job!

However, I would refrain from discussing it here until enough time passes that I can be sure that the scumbag did not go to the cops to say that he accidentally knocked on the wrong door and this crazy guy held a 45 to his face.

Congratulations on a safe solution.

I hope the police are able to get a good DNA match from the urine sample he left in your foyer.

Reluctantly, I must admit that my reaction to this situation would not have been anywhere as noble as yours. However it is understood that you have much more to lose.

glad to hear it ended safly for you and your family. i could only hope to react nearly as well as you did.

Good job.

It's always best to avoid gunning someone down in front of your family. They'll remember it for the rest of their lives. Given our PC climate, they'll probably also wonder at some point in their life whether it was really necessary to take the (however worthless) life that was taken... You might wonder about that too.

Much better for them, and for your Karma too, to have accomplished the mission (getting rid of the intruder) in the manner you were able to accomplish it in...

Again, good job.

Good job. I hope I'll react as well if it ever happens to me...

For the sake of your family I don't wish you'd shot him, but for the sake of the next family down the line I wish he'd tripped on the sidewalk (well out of sight of your kids) while running away and cracked his skull fatally (or at least to the point of permanent disability that would preclude future home invasions).

Seems like this all came out very well.

May I add ... for those to whom this might apply. CARRY - 16/7 - it matters not being in your home (castle?) ... have your piece on board ALL the time. I hear tales of folks ''rushing to grab a piece'' ... NOT good enough. That piece must be welded to the person at all times. Time may not be your friend.

I blather on about this to point where I probably get tedious but I mean it - those who think they are ''immune'' from an HI - don't get complacent. I do not intend to support constant paranoia but - suggest simple preparedness - and that IMO means ... piece on the person - period!

I agree with P95

First let me add my well wishes. You did what had to be done. Nice Job! :)

My neighbor had an HI about 8 months ago and that is what prompted me to also carry at home. My wife has no problem with it and, now, neither do my in-laws, who did the first time they saw me carrying. You do not pick the day it happens to you so be prepared.

Again, nice job!

My hat's off to you! You spared a man's life and quite possibly saved your own. That's one of my key philosophies with gun ownership and that is, "Shoot only if you absolutely must, otherwise, hold 'em at bay." I for one could use lethal force on someone without hesitation, but if ever time permits me the luxury of bringing about a peaceful conclusion, I will instead take that road.

Personally, I think "puppy" should change his handle to "Cool Hand".

Great job of handling the stressful situation while you were bound to be "stressed out"!

In my house - if I didn't shoot him, my wife would!

Gentle winds,
cr

You and your family are unhurt, so I'm not going to second guess your actions. The only thing I wish you had done different would have been to have a camera ready to get a picture of his face when he turned around and noticed a 45 pointed at him. I would have loved to see that.

Now that I think about it, it would have been a good idea to get a picture of his face in your house before letting him go. 20-20 hindsight in this case, but maybe something to keep in mind for the future.

As others have accurately noted, you done good. It is for scenarios like that that I never am far from my USP. The thought of being helpless and my loved ones being at the mercy of criminals gives me profound chills. Not on my watch.

Thanks for posting.

Well done, Puppy.

Having been "Home Invaded" almost 25 years back....and I STILL don't sleep well....I seriously doubt that I would have been able to hold fire on said miscreant.

I would enjoy seeing a pic of the BG's face when he turns around and sees he is on the "Business End" of a .45 and a bright red spot dancing across his chest.

:what: :what: :what: :what: comes to mind.

P.S. Is Mrs. Puppy much more interested in self-defense now?
