I've been looking for a .223 (see thread in Rifle Country). Good used rifles are hard to come by around here (Iowa), but I will be going on vacation later this month in Colorado and may check a few stores. If I were to find a good deal would it be legal for me to purchase it?

I remember seeing a map in a store around here that showed which state's residents could legally purchase guns in Iowa, but I can't seem to find anything similar on the internet.

You would be legal to purchase it from an FFL. You could also purchase it in a private sale, HOWEVER, it would only be legal if it was actually transferred to you via an FFL.

Walmarts have that map you are talking about. Call a Walmart in Colorado that sells rifles/shotguns and they will tell you if they can sell to an Iowa resident, but I am 99% certain there is nothing in CO or Iowa laws prohibiting it.

Yes, Colorado law specifically allows out of State Hunters to replace a weapon. I used to be a Wash ( also Oak Harbor ) resident, and had a home here in Colorado. There was never an issue when doing the BGC.

NO- Wal-Mart will not sell to you.
