I just recently picked up an SKS and spent all sunday afternoon trying to find a local outdoor range. Almost every one I called wanted 175+ for a membership that was only good for a few more months. I dont mind paying a little bit of money to join an outdoor range, but it seems a little rediculous to pay more for an outdoor range than I do for my INDOOR pistol range, let alone have to drive 45 mins from my house and it only be good for a couple months.

Any-who, anyone know any good rifle ranges in the Central MD area that I should check out?

Elk Neck in North East, MD
Hap Baker in Westminster
Delmarva down past Cambridge

Those are the only ones that I know of that you can do a day pass type thing.

Myrtle Groove Wildlife Management Area (Waldorf's the closest large area) is also available, but the passes all expire on 12/31 and are not prorated for when you buy it. I think they're still $20, you can get one whereever you can buy a hunting license. Do not try to shoot without a permit, its a $125 fine and the sheriff's department loves to ticket people for it.

They expire on 7/31, not 12/31.

Shows how long its been since I've been to Myrtle Grove. (or maybe its 12 months from issue for MG? Elk Neck's permits expire with the calendar year)

Hap Baker does a "day pass?" Interesting, I read that it was yearly membership only. That is the best news ive heard all weekend, except the news about the waves in OC that prompted a day trip :) Just the info I was looking for, as always, Mr. Norton. Thanks a bunch. You wouldnt happen to know how much a day pass is would ya? BTW If you ever wanna shoot a 7.62 SKS or AR15 (I can round up an M1 garand, a Tompson, a .50 cal muzzle loader and .67 cal musket but id need some time since my friend is in boot right now) gimmie a shout. I still owe ya for the On-Target pistol try out experience :)

Jason,

I think the day pass is $15 for out of county residents. I used to have an annual pass but the 2 hour waits for a bench got pretty old.

That Thompson might be interesting. We can probably shoot that at On Target since it's a pistol caliber

You're already "paying me back" by staying involved in the community. Be there in Annapolis when the gun bill day happens and the deal is sealed!

It usually doesn't take 2 hours to get a bench at Hap Baker, except for the upcoming months leading to hunting season. Expect to see a lot of hunters zeroing and refreshing their skills. I'd avoid the crowd and either shoot the 100/200 position, or just do handguns.
