can I shoot 9mm +p+ in my M and P compact? The manual says no,but you know how that goes. Not a steady diet mind you, just as a carry load and 200 for a function test.
thanks

The problem lies in the fact there is no SAAMI standard for +P+ ammo, so S&W has no way of knowing what pressure levels various +P+ may be.

It may be ammo speced out for an MP5 sub-machinegun, or something with a much longer barrel.

Without a crono, there is no way to know if it will perform as well or better then standard or +P ammo in your gun.

Anyway, any slight increase in velocity will not make the differance between winning or losing a gunfight anyway!

And the increased muzzle blast & recoil may slow you down.

I think I wouldn't shoot it in my guns.
But your milage may vary.

Some states restrict loads above +P to law enforcement only. So if the cops are using them, then why not us? Apparently the cops seem to think they are good for something.

The strength of your gun is a different matter though. If in doubt, go with the manufacturers recommendations, imo.

I say 9mm is ok. Then 9mm+p is kinda...well, I reckon I don't need it, but no harm done. Once you get to 9mm+p+, you probably should quit fooling around and buy a .40S&W, since you're clearly unhappy with the 9mm and are trying to make it into something else.

If you buy +P+ ammo in retail packaging from a major manufacturer, in a retail store, you do not need to worry.

Will it hurt your M&P? NO. Will it accelerate wear and tear on your pistol? Yes. Is it something to worry about? No, unless you are a Rockefeller and can afford many thousands of dollars for hot ammo.

If you can afford enough high pressure ammo to wear out a gun, you can afford to buy a whole bunch of guns.

This is a non-issue and sure wastes a lot of bandwidth.

agree

with MattJ2. +P+ is not cheap ammo, not sure why everyone wants to push the envelope but I guess it is human nature. I do think if I had that desire for +P+ , I would just go to a 40 cal.

Exactly.

The only one I know of for sure is nebraska, and that was ten years ago. I used to live there.

I am happy w/ 9mm balistics....just asking guys. don;t get all bent;)....I can make good hits w/ 9mm consistantly,and .40 isn't my cup of tea.Just considering my options.

Trigger and gun control resulting in two to the chest and one in the head trumps any keyboard commando palaver about caliber, velocity, bullet weight, or penetration.

Buy and carry what you are comfortable with and practice enough to become proficient.

It ain't the bow, it ain't the arrow, it ain't the quiver, only the size of the fight in the indian counts.
