My new P3AT seems to not like hollow points so much, when I rack the slide slowly, it just doesn't feed into the champer unless I give it a little push.

I just used my dremel to polish up the feed ramp a bit and when I pull the slide back briskly and let it slam, it feeds fine but it seems a bit hesitant when I don't let it slam back.

I just got the little KT today and I went straight from a dealer to the range to get my CCW qualified with flawless 24 shots with FMJ but I'm a bit concerned about this hesitancy to feed with hollow points...I guess I'll try it out tomorrow at the range, but has anyone had feeind issues with hollow points. Ammo I have is Federa Hydra shock.

You cant ride the slide forward on the P3AT. Pull it back and let it go. Many small autos will behave similarly if you ride the slide forward.

I agree about not riding the slide forward.

I'd be careful about taking a Dremel tool to any firearm unless you are confident you know what you are doing.

Well, OK, I'm not exactly riding it or deliberately doing it slowly. I'm just racking it as usual and the first round still doesn't want to go in well with HP. I hope it gets better as I shoot more, wondering if anyone else had similar experience.

I'm not doing any radical dremeling, just a soft polishing tip to smooth it out.

I wish I could afford to shoot hollow points on a regular basis through my P38t's.

Why not try Corbon Pow'r Ball ammo? I use it for SD ammo in all my handguns, regardless of auto, or wheel gun.

Winchester Silvertips work fine in mine. Never a failure to feed. I'm an advocate of occasionally practicing with the ammo you'd use in a self-defense situation for several reasons, including to ensure the SD ammo feeds and shoots properly. Haven't counted # of boxes but it's quite a few without a problem. It's really my wife's gun, and at 120 pounds she's never had a problem racking the slide on the 1st round and caused a FTF.

That little slide needs a lot of force to feed a round. The action doesn't work right unless your firing a round. And a round on the warm side is all the better. I tried several SD loads until I decided on one that had adequate performance and was reliable. That is the Corbon DPX .380 round. On my chrony out of the Keltec it reaches a true 1050fps and penetration is as nearly as deep as some .45acp HP's I've shot, solid copper bullets are the shiznits. Stay away from the Corbon Powerball though, not worth the money, the DPX is the one to get. I believe I read where Corbon stated the DPX .380 was designed specifically for the P3AT's.

I've put a few hundred Remington 88-grain JHP's through my P3AT without a hiccup. The 100-packs are cheap enough from Walmart to practice with also.

Fluff and Buff it. Use a little "slide glide" and there should be poblems with the Corbon DPX. Corbon designed their .380 DPX with the P3AT as the platform. Works fine for me. You just have to keep the little bugger clean and lubed.

DPX

CORBON DPX ALLTHE WAY. babya the slide and it will give feed issues. let ur rip and it will be ok. If the feed ramp and chamber are highly polished, it sure helps feeding ALOT. you ar ento taking off any metal with a dremel and a cotton swab, just polishing...

I had a similar problem. The first time I loaded it the Federal Hydro Shock's did not feed well. After I took it to the range and ran a mag of them through it it seemed to loosen up. I reloaded four at a time and fired the rest of the box with no problem. When I cleaned and reloaded for carry the Feds loaded without a problem.

While my P3AT has no problem with JHP, I carry FMJ in it. I want Penetration with the little .380

As mentioned above, grip that baby tight

Mine does the same thing but always operates properly when being fired. I'm not sure why it hangs up when you manually rack in that first round but I got over it quickly. As long as it functions when you're shooting it should not be an issue.

I did a fluff and buff on my P3AT and it feeds Federal HS fine. Even so, I still carry Remington UMC FMJ. I doubt most hollow points will open up much at the slow velocity of the .380.

The fluff and buff really smooths out everything, the movement of the slide, the feeding, etc.

You might try the new Buffalo Bore hardcast .380 rounds. I kind of have a thing for hardcast, but they do sound pretty effective.
