These are 2 of the most comfortable handguns ive held, but i dont know much about the performance of the walther p99 any reviews would be good, and how it would hold up against the usp in performance.

Does the p99 perform better in .40 or 9mm?

I have also heard that since Smith and Wesson partnered with walther for distribution in america that the quality has lessened but have no proof.

I've had great luck w/ the USP in several calibers so I'd think the USP 40 would be a fine performer ;)

sweet, thanks for the link.

So the 9mm P99 is actually 100% walther not S&W? I've heard bad things about the ones that have S&W barrels and such.

The USP was originally designed for the 40 , not a 9mm conversion. HK has an excellent reputaion for quality and durability.BTW, the recoil system reduces the felt recoil significantly.

Rather than the USP .40 why not try the 2000 .40, the 2000 is more like the P99

Instead of something "more like" the P99, why not just buy the P99?

I've put quite a few rounds down range with the FS HK USP in .40 and have to admit, it's a fine shooting pistol but...I wouldn't/don't own one.

Your wish is my command:

Keep in mind I own multiple P99s and USPs. While my USP 9mm Compact is close, my P99 is my preferred double stack 9mm. I also prefer my P99 to my USP 9mm SD. I can only compare my USP .40 Compact to my one and only P99 .40. In .40, I probably shoot the USP Compact better simply because the P99 is lighter and doesn't seem to absorb the recoil as much as the USP.

Also, keep in mind I do NOT like the .40S&W. I much prefer 9mm for the P99 and USP. And I prefer the .45ACP.

I own a few .40s, but don't like to shoot them nor do I shoot them as well as the 9mm or .45. Just a personal preference thing.:p

I own USP’s and P99's in both 9mm and 40sw, all have been great shooters and totally reliable, it’s more a matter of personal preference, as it is with most firearms from a big name manufacture, than which is really “better” or “the best”.

As many have said here both are dead reliable and tack driver accurate. I have 2 100% german made P99's and a USP .45 (the preferred flavor of USP).

It doesn't really matter which one you get since if you're like most of us you'll end up getting both anyways. Either way you wont be disappointed.

I don't know what "bad things" you may have heard about the .40 S&W Walther, but they work just as well as the 9mm version. Back in the early days, they had .40 magazine problems, but that was then.

I also have one of the .40 P99s that is not proof marked (slide and barrel made by S&W; frame in Germany by Walther) and it has worked 100% perfectly...not even one issue, counting human error, bad ammo, and the gun.

all the things i heard must have been from the older ones then, i wasnt sure if what i heard was true or just a rumor so thats why i made the post :). thanks again for all the responses

If i got a usp it would be the .40 not the 9mm conversion i just wanted to compare performance of these 2 cause these are the onyl 2 guns im interested in buying cause they feel the best. I know they are different caliber guns but that doesnt matter i think a 9mm will persuade someone to go away just as well as a .40

USP for sure. In fact, I've shot both, and I can't even start to compare a HK to a Walther or S&W. Its like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford tempo.

 To each his own, but that is just a silly comment.

Walther P99s are easily in the same class as HK USPs.

I can certainly speak from personal experience :neener:

Have 2 P99s, a SW99, a USP compact, and recently sold my fullsize USP.

The Walther is no Ford Tempo compared to a Ferrari. Sorry.

I like the P99 the best - it is the most ergonomic gun I have ever held. The A/S design is also my fav. I shoot it just as well as I do expensive 1911s.

Deferent guns work best for different people. For me, my best gun is the P99.

I own both

the H&K USPc .40 and Walther P99 9mm. Hands down my H&K is twice the gun of the P99. I've put close to 1000rds a piece and never had an issue with the H&K. The P99 jams at least once per 10 shots. I plan on taking it in to have it looked at, but out of the box reliability goes to the H&K IMO.

Take the P2000 - great fit and feel for CCW - great sights, ambi slide release, adjustable back straps, consistent though looong LEM trigger, very solid feel, and good recoil control. Near perfect piece. The P99 QA is no slouch either - another great gun. 100% reliable, adjustable sights front and rear, switchable back straps, great trigger, nice unobtrusive decocker, feels really good, and a better price. Both shot near 1000 rounds with NO issues for either one.

I would (did) choose the HK in .40 if desired, but would now pick it in 9mm, and I would definetly get the P99 in 9mm as it recoils a bit more - it is light at 24oz and doesn't have the HK recoil engineering.

I agree with you shield20. The H&K 2000 is in my humble opinion a superior gun to the Walther P99 and = to or more accurate in my hands. If you like the Walther, you will love the 2000

P99

The P99 in 0.40 has stout but not unpleasant recoil. I have shot the P99 QA and it is excellent. The trigger is short and stiff and the gun shoots like a bullet laser. It was so nice I started shooting the TDA or AS version as well. Both are very impressive. I have not shot a HK. The P99 is excellent enough, IMO.

Sorry to hear that. I've put 800 rounds thru my P99, 750 thru my P99c, and over 1100 thru my SW99. Not a single problem...
