Walther P99 vs Glock vs HK USP

If we limit the choices to the 9mm versions,
I'd get a HK USP for its superior accuracy. No break-in period needed on any USP you buy. It is also the most durable if you like to shoot +P+ ammo all the time. On the other hand, like others mentioned, you may want to try out the P2000, or even the P2000 subcompact. What about an USP Expert, Elite, or Tactical if you want to shoot small groups at 50 yards?

I'd only get a Walther P99 or a Glock if "combat" accuracy is all you need. Unless you are a LEO or have a CCW (in LA:D ) I'd guess that you will do more target shooting than combat shooting.;)

Enjoy whatever model you choose and spend the rest on ammo.

Walther really felt great in my hand. Still love my Glock 17 - just seems to fit my hand, but dislike the grip angle.

Hey, an "opinion" question that I'm qualified to answer (kinda)...

I've owned SEVERAL Glocks, 2 Walther's, and 3 HK's... Unfortunately, calibers vary, but I think it still applies.

I currently do not own ANY Glocks. I just don't like the grip angle. I tried small (27), medium (19, 23 & 29) and large (17) and I just couldn't get over the "feel".

I have 2 Walther P99's. One in 9mm, one in .40. The 9mm is absolutely the most accurate, sweetest shooting semi I own, period.

I have owned 2 USP 45's and 1 USP 40. I still own one 45. It's my favorite "house gun", but it's a bit big and heavy (IMHO) for a 9mm.

My vote by far is the P99. The Glock (again, in my experience) had more recoil than the Walther. My 12 year old son said the same thing. He loves the Walther, but wasn't crazy about the Glock.

I say get what feels best for you, because I have never had a single malfunction with any of these pistols... but I'd choose a Walther.

I like the feel of the Glocks plus they don't take a lot of care to keep them happy. That said, after reading the previous post, I am heading to the range (weather permitting) and doing the comparison thing. I will report the results when I get back.

I will say this, I have not owned the Walther very long. But I have little confidence in it for reliability. I have only been able to get one full magazine shot without it locking up regardless of ammo brand or bullet weight/type.

According to Walther forum posts, it is a magazine clip issue. However, I have not been able to get the newer magazines to try.

I will also say this, the Walther is very accurate and comfortable as far as recoil. The only other major problem for me is everytime I shoot it, the bottom side of the end of my trigger finger hurts like heck. It appears to me to be a result of the shape of the trigger....maybe. I sure don't like it.

It's a magazine follower problem if you have a .40 P99.
Call Walther's customer service and they'll mail you the new followers for free.

They're all great guns -- but cost wise I'd look at either the Glock or Walther. For myself, I got my eye on the Sig Pro 2009...:D

Well, I'm back from the range and here are the results (all .40 S&W-I know, this post started with the 9mm in mind)...

I shot the Glock 23, Walther P99 and my new Sig P2340. Accuracy - Sig edges them out slightly with the Glock and Walther neck and neck. Reliability, well the P99 was the first to jam (one only) but both the Glock and Sig each jammed once as well (after numerous rounds had been fired).

What really surprised me was the way the Sig handled the recoil and felt in my hands. Much better than the P99 and Glock. The P99 trigger is still a problem for me. The end of the trigger rubs the end of my finger raw. I guess I will have to shoot it a lot to let a callous form.

Thanks, NMG...I will call Walther and get new followers.

I also shot the Hi-power 9mm and Gold Cup .45 and can tell you that they are still my favorite. Best in accuracy, reliability, and handling.

Also had fun with the new Glock 31 in .357 Sig. I liked the way it felt. I will definitely order the .357 Sig barrel for the 2340. But I will have to be careful to remember what caliber is loaded in the mags as the 2340 mags will hold both.....that could be a problem!

I recently shot a USP Expert in .45. It was just awesome. Felt like my 9mm G34 (which is also, awesome!) One of the few .45s I really really like.

Infact, so far, it's the next handgun I plan to purchase.

The Expert is more of a target gun, has an extremely light SA trigger after the first shot.

My Glock G34 is everything you could want in a carry and target pistol. It's got the rocks for both uses equally well. If it shoots well for you, there is no more reliable and hardy pistol in the world.

Both guns are very fine, try a SIG too. (226 and 239 I have shot and liked)

Any of those three you can't go wrong with in my opinion.

No expierence yet with the Walther.
