It is time for me to consider one of the polymer 9mm guns. I considered Walther P99, Glock 19, and HK USP Compact.

I like the way Walther feels in the hand, and I like HK for egonomics as well. I like Glock for simplicity.

How those three guns compare when you shoot them? How's recoil on Walther? I heard that Glock has a better recoil signature since the barrel sits lower then on HK. So rapid firing Glock is better than rapid firing HK. How's the barrel position on the Walther?

I've never fired an HK but in the past three months I have experienced a G-19 and a P99.

To state it simply; I DID have a Glock and a Walther, now I have only the Walther.

The P99 is more comfortable to shoot, less recoil, and muzzle flip, and feels more natural, the Glock pointed up at an angle. The P99 has adjustable sights. I could shoot the Walther much more accurately, this is one big reason I still have it. I was very disappointed in the Glock's accuracy. The P99's groups are simply amazing, lots of holes touching at ten yards shooting offhand. The Walther even likes the Walmart value pack Winchester ammo the best with PMP a close second. The Glock didn't seem to like ANY of the six kinds of ammo I tried in it!

The Walther has a serious combat pistol look to it, but I do really like the simple lines of the Glock.

Both guns shoot clean, and are easy to strip for cleaning. The nod does go to the Glock for cleaning, it was slightly easier to clean.

So, there is my limited experience, I hope it helps you with your decision.

Shoot whats feels the best to you. If it were my choice I would go for the Walther. The manual of arms is simple and its an excellent pistol with both accuracy and reliability.

It all comes down to personal preference.
All three are excellent choices.
Buy whichever fits YOU the best.

I find the recoil of my P99 9mm a little more snappy that the recoil fo my G19.

HK's recoil will be softer but slower than a glock. In general glock's will be faster on shot to shot recovery, but you will feel it more(no free lunch), especially in larger calibers (.45). Never shot a Walther, but they feel good in the hand. They also have a low bore axis like the Glock, so should be faster. The one that fits best in your hand will be better for instinctive shooting and quicker sight allignment. My SIG P226 is slightly slower than a Glock 17 on shot to shot speed, but it's a natural pointer so the first shot is faster and more accurate. Feel and fit of a handgun to your hand is more important than anything exept reliability.

Walther has better "pointability" for some people, and the sights seem a little more "precise."

Manual of arms for a Glock is simpler, and it's my observation (which some Walther owners will vehemently dispute) that 9mm Glocks are generally more reliable than 9mm P99s. Plus, no DA/SA transition for the Glock.

I have some personal anecdotes and observations, but the sample size is limited. I'll just say that I USED to see a couple of P99s at IDPA matches, and don't anymore - their owners have switched to something else.

But Glocks are still abundant. (As are SIGs, Beretta, and S&W 9mms. With an occasional Ruger or H&K thrown in.)

The walther was nice i shot grip was jsut a tad to small for me glocks i jsut dont care for i went with the Hk If the walther would have fit me better i would have bought one of them too

So buy what ever fits your hand the best all 3 would be good buys

1 fuction makes it simple to pick the Walther/HK over the Glock, 2nd strike capability. It does not exist with the Glock, however the HK with the traditional DA/SA and the Walther striker firing system it is possible, and besides a misfire can happen to anyone.

They are all good guns. I've owned several Glocks, an HK USPc 45, and a Walther P99 QA. The only one I still have is the P99. I like the trigger pull on the Glocks, and they fit well in my hand, but the Walther fit better. The trigger pull is similar. I also liked the feel of the HK, but I despised the DA/SA trigger. If they ever come out with the LEM trigger for the USPc 45 then I may pick up another. If I were you I'd first decide what kind of trigger pull I want. The Walther and the HK both have DA/SA, the Walther QA and the Glock both have light DOA style triggers. Once you've decided what trigger style, thhen go to your local gun shop and hold each of them, then pick the one that fits your hand best. It's that simple.

If you're interested in a good 9mm polymer gun. I suggest that you take a close look at the Stey M9. It has a lower bore axis than any of the three talked about so far, and is a real workhorse in terms of reliability. Also, they are the best gun you can get for the money at CDNN investments. Oh yeah, they are also DAO with a 1/8" pull on the trigger.

I'm a Glock and SIG fan, however, I am looking forward to trying the HK P2000 with the LEM trigger system. I have shot several HKs but have yet to find one that does anything so much better than my Glocks and SIGs that I was willing to buy the HK. However, the P2000 may very well be my first HK.

This is a very personal choice.

For me (I've owned Glocks, a P99 and HKs) the HK USP has outperformed all the others by far, and is like wearing a glove for me, of course YMMV.

Glocks have never worked out well for me. My Glock 26 was ok, but not 100% reliable, my Glock 36 literally fell apart in my hands during my first time shooting it.

My P99 is ok now after a fit of jams using 115 gr. ammo. The P99 just doesn't quite fit me, but I still like it a lot.

My USP .45 C is frighteningly accurate and has never had a failure of any kind. I find the trigger very controllable.

Having said that, I tried the trigger on a P2000 the other day and that LEM trigger is sweet!! :)

Well I have shot all three and I own A Walther P99. I like all the safety features on the Walther. I love the ergonomics and I shoot the damn thing so well.

Yes Virginia, I do love Sigs but the fella who started this thread set his own parameters.:D Given the choices of the Walther, Glock, or HK, I choose the P99 hands down everytime! (Note this does not include the SW99)!

I have shot a USP compact...very nice gun, just a little out of my price range. I don't care for glocks too much. I ended up with a P99 in 9mm and am very happy with it. My $1.50...

Rival-If you're ever up in the Bay Area, drop me a line and you can wring out my P99 and get a feel for it.

My wife has a P99 and I have a USP 40 full size and a G22.

The P99 just melts into my hand and everything on it feels just right. Even the decocker some people complain about. I have no problem with where it is placed. Recoil is mild in 9mm, it's light and quite small, I think a bit smaller than the USP Compact.

The USP40, has very very light recoil due to the design which I believe the compact version shares too (recoil spring design) so rapid fire should be a breeze. And I like the mag release on either the USP and P99, easy to reach and no accidental mag releases with it. If you want a normal safety, it can be had with that, or a decocker. I have the decock version. It's a bit wide though for either full size and compact.

Glock, not much you can say about it, simple, rugged. The G19 is a good size between the pocket G26 and full size G17, it's light and felt pretty good when I shot it. But I prefer the normal trigger or the USP, with the slightly different trigger or the P99 second, and Glock unmodified trigger last.

I would not even begin to think anything but HK in 45ACP. The USP Compact in 45 is an awesome hand gun. Accuracy is not an issue! The gun points well for me! The extended magazine base plate makes for a fine grip. I have shot 4000 rounds through a fullsize HK USP, and the only failures so far have been induced on purpose with training rounds. The USPc is my daily companion. I have 2000 rounds through it and well, I can shoot groups at 50 ft covered by the palm of my hand! I am sold! Get the HK, and go to the dark side!

P99

Walther P99.
Shoots great, feels great, looks great. Easy to takedown & clean.
My 9mm eats everything that I've tried, incl. LRN, various HP, FMJ, 124gr, 115gr., and +P stuff.
Only other comment is the P99 trigger is just quite different from a 1911 or a Hi-Power. You need to try one to see, rental...

Moreover,

For those individuals who say that the Walther P99 doesn't fit their large/small hands, three sizes of interchangeable backstraps are included with the pistols.

Get the H&K. USP's are a little clunky but they are safe, accurate and tough. The Walther P99 should be nice also (and a little sleeker). I'd pass on the Glock.
