This should probably go in L&P but I suspect it'll get seen more here.

Pa House Bill 760, the Firearms Registration Act, has been proposed. It seeks registration of EVERY gun in PA, at $10/gun per year, with discrecion of who may own guns given to the PA State Police. If they deny your application, they confiscate the gun in question. No grandfathering, no handing down guns from parents to children, no private sales, no CCW, no exceptions.

Bill Text

This bill is a horrendous assault on our rights as law-abiding gun owners.

Gun control bils in PA typically go nowhere and die in committee, but with teh shift in power, I'm not sure how this will end up.

If you live in PA, PLEASE contact your state rep and voice your outrage over this bill.

I'd be really ticked if this passed. PA has traditionally been a pretty gun-friendly state.

I better get writing...

The unmitigated gall of these Anti-Americans is beyond words at this point. As I have said, "Anti-American" is even better suited than "Anti-gun" for correct terminology..

How can this possibly be legal, given the State (OK, Commonwealth) Constitution states:

“The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.” Article 1, Section 21."

Seems even more unambiguous than the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

I used to think of PA as being a pretty good state, but since I moved out a decade ago it seems to have gone downhill. :-(

its just the eastern side of the state that people pay attention to.

The majority of PA is farms and forests and gun owners :D

I know a few towns that would probably form their own countries if something like that bill passed.

I thought PA had one of the most clearly written second amendments in their state constitution.

whats goin on?

PA's handgun (transfer) registration isn't enough, I guess. The anti-gun-owner crowd wants every pea shooter put into a database.

The application includes fingerprints and photos. And it doesn't specify anything about what the background check is checking for besides "criminal history," or why it's even looking for criminal history. Unlike some other places, the registration law doesn't specify who is ineligible to register a gun (i.e, which types of criminal convictions would disqualify you).

And no visitors to PA allowed, either, never mind the "car carry w/any CCW" law.

(b) Nonapplicability.--This section shall not apply to:
. . .

(5) Any nonresident of this Commonwealth participating
in any lawful recreational firearm-related activity in this
Commonwealth, or on the way to or from the firearm-related
activity in another jurisdiction, provided that the
possession or control of the firearm is lawful in the
jurisdiction in which the individual resides and that the
weapon is either:
(i) Broken down in a nonfunctioning state.
(ii) Unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm-
carrying box, shipping box or other container.

This is good, too:

Section 5. Additional duties of registrant.
Each person holding a registration certificate shall:
. . .
(3) Keep any firearm in the registrant's possession
unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock, gun
safe or similar device unless the firearm is in the
registrant's immediate possession and control while at the
registrant's place of residence or business or while being
used for lawful recreational purposes within this
Commonwealth. This paragraph shall not apply to law
enforcement personnel or security personnel while in the
course of their employment.

You pretty much hit it on the head Dontburnmyflag. The Eastern part of the state. All this gun control crap comes from the uber-libs in Philly. Must be the toxic fumes blowing across the river from Camdem that fries their brains. Luckily for freedom, their asinine bills usually get shot down by the rest of the state which seems to have a lot more common sense. Strange how some of the most restrictive, anti-freedom crap comes from one of the birthplaces of American freedom.

Even with the change of power in Harrisburg, I don't think this has much chance to pass, but complacency could screw us, so keep those letters flowing.

No it hasn't. I have yet to actually see one of these anti-gun bills pass.

Remember, the people who write these only have the slightest chance of getting them passed, and don't pay any attention to what the PA Supreme Court would say about it. They don't care if the SC strikes it down as long as they get the PR points for having passed it.

Hell, the only reason the PA SC allowed CCW permits was because universal open carry at 18 was still on the books to maintain the "unquestioned" status of the RKBA.

"The Right of the people to keep and bear arms for the defense of themselves and the commonwealth shall not be questioned"-The applicable section of our constitution:neener:

Alright

THIS ONE has really got me fired up. Who am I writing to, and how?

I know I oughta know the answers, but admittedly I suffer (though - NO LONGER) from "at least it ain't me"-itis.

Go here, put in your zip and find your state representative. Click on his/her name. That'll take you to their page with all their contact information.

$10/gun/yr. If they can't refuse the resistration, they'll keep raising the fee until you can't afford to own 'em, legally.

They're anti-constitutional!! (new word?)

Stay safe.
Bob

Will NJ please take Philly, we don't want it. I am so sick of them blaming us for their problems. Take Rendell too, thanks a lot fast Eddie, b/c of you my local earned income tax will likely go from 1% to 2% while I will just sit and wait for the gambling revenue to pour in. Of course, before it does I am sure they will reassess and double my real estate taxes. PA is going to hell!

Man this makes me mad, from the bill "No person within this Commonwealth may possess, harbor, have under the person's control, transfer,
offer for sale, sell, give, deliver or accept any firearm unless the person is the holder of a valid registration certificate for the firearm."

None of the gangstas committing the murders legally possess their guns so it won't affect them. Particularly since most seem to be on bail for illegally carrying a gun at the time they commit murder.

Another letter to my rep is in the works. My local guy replied about a different bill (the PA AWB), cleverly agreeing with me without actually saying he'd vote against. I guess it's a good sign, but I'd have preferred something like "I will vote no on this bill."

Rumble,

In a follow-up e-mail, ask him/her point blank, "I need to know if I will be campaigning for you or against you in the next election cycle. Will you vote yes or no on this bill?"

I know whats going on...

I used to think of PA as being a pretty good state, but since I moved out a decade ago it seems to have gone downhill. :-(

Some of the yuppie socialists swine from my state have begun migrating to PA. PA brothers, lets team up and sent these comies pigs to china, where they can live out their days in their own filth.

Looks like I might have to scratch off PA and CO from my Florida CCW permit reciprocity. What a shame
