Hey All,

My area in central PA is terrible for frequent/good quality pistol competitions from what I've looked into. We've got some pretty good long range, highpower, etc........and I've been shooting those. However, I am very eager to get into some pistol shoots and I was hoping the well informed here on THR might be able to give me some contacts or point me in the right direction for schedules and such regarding pistol shoots within a few hours of central PA.

Any advice would be appreciated. I have gotten some information from the Keystone Sportsmen's Association, but they are pretty much the only club around that does anything with pistols.

Many thanks!

Steve......yes, I've checked out the website. Like I said, about the only one that does anything around here is Keystone Sportsmen.

What I am looking for is some first hand experience from guys who know of other shoots that aren't that well advertised, IDPA and smiliar types of shoots that clubs run that might not be on the IDPA or other websites, etc.

Have you been to any good ones that are regular things and worth checking out?

Thanks for the thought of the website, but I've already checked it out and I am sure there is more info out there that can be shared.

I shoot more in the Eastern area of PA, but www.eastontacticalops.com runs 2 matches, one in Easton and one (indoor) in Yeadon and www.brcv-gun.org is also a good club. Don't forget about USPSA, either. There may or may not be more USPSA clubs in your area depending on exactly where you are.

Oh, I almost forget, Ontalaunee (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) is closer to central PA than the rest of these clubs, and it's where they run the PA state match, so it may be worth looking into.

Not sure how far from Donegal......I'm not familiar with it. But, from Huntingdon I'm about 1.5 to 2 hours away. I'd have no problem driving that far for a match.

IWLA in York puts on excellant USPSA matches the second Sunday of each month. Get contact data from USPSA, Area 8 section. Other action pistol you may find interesting is the Pennsylvania Steel Shooters League. Palmyra, home of the PSA, holds two matches and New Holland Rifle and Pistol club has two matches. Check Topton's website for more info on both USPSA and the Steel League. www.toptonfga.org

Thanks guys.........I used a few of the links provided to check out some clubs and I'll be going to a shoot next weekend in Huntington. I am really looking forward to it and my brothers will probably go as well. I am expecting to have a good time and learn something along the way.

I'll let you know how it goes.

If you are able to travel a bit - do consider this club , where I go to shoot IDPA .... pretty laid back, great club, with a good core of shooters. It is near to Altoona if you are checking on map.

We run IDPA monthly from April thru October, and some of the guys also go elsewhere for compo's.
