I recently bought a Winchester 12. It has a Pachmayr "White Line" recoil pad that has me buffalo'd. There are no screw holes visible for removal. I checked the archives and it was suggested that the pad be squeezed to reveal the holes...no joy.

Was this epxoy'd on?

Need some help.

M1260, they usually use a razor to slit the rubber recoil pad and then install the screws, just poke around with a Phillips screw driver until you find the openings. I doubt seriously that they epoxied the pad to the stock.

I have run across epoxied on recoil pads, but mostly on rifles. Very dumb move to glue one on with a takedown bolt under it! Probe around, there are probably a couple of screws there.

You were correct. There are two slits hidden within the pad's ridges. With a little probing, and a couple four-letter words, I found the screw heads.

Thanks!

Put some Vaseline or something on the slits before you go probing around in there with a dry screwdriver.

That's what the guy that put it on did.
That's also the reason you couldn't see them.

Because the Vaseline kept the dry screwdriver shaft from ripping up the slits in the rubber when they grabbed unto it and couldn't slip.

Incidentally I've used dish soap on my screw driver, reckon I should have mentioned it. Not sure whether or not he intended to keep the pad that was on the gun, or if he intended to fit a new pad. Anyways RC explained it right.;)

The pad is in good condition, so I reinstalled it with the aid of some thin grease. I only removed it to clean the stock a little.

The gun is in surprisingly good condition. The previous owner(s) took care of the bore and externals. However, I do not believe the internals were cleaned since it was built in 1914.
