I have an early 70's Remington 700 that I would like to replace the recoil pad on. There are NO screw holes to be found in the old Remington pad. An email to Remington went unanswered. Were these pads glued on? If so what is the best way to remove it?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

All Remington pads I have seen were screwed on. The screws are inserts through thin slits cut into the pad which close after the screws are inserted.

I have poked all over (hard) with both a Phillips screwdriver and a straightened out paper clip and can't find the holes (if present).

They are there I betcha.

Lube a small pointy object and the butt pad with grease.

And keep poking!

It was pretty hard finding the screw holes on the rubber butt pad of my 870. The rubber does a really good job of filling back in once the screws are out of the way. I seem to recall that the holes were about the size of a small brad nail but the screw was much bigger.

Grab the pad on the two sides and squeeze them together, you should be able to see the slits for the holes.

Keep looking, there are two screws holding it on. Like has been said, the rubber just sort of squeezes back into place after the screws were put in. The slits look like something made with a razor, very thin. A phillips screwdriver will get them out.

Thank You

Thanks gentleman. I took a straight pick (smaller than an ice pick) and poked all over. I was able to find a spot that felt softer than the rest of the pad so I pressed fairly hard there. It felt like the pick punctured the rubber pad and sure enough there were screws underneath!.
Thanks again folks!
