Packing.org
Tactical Ninja,
Mr. Solomon had all kinds of chances to fix or at least give access to people to keep the site going and didn't even answer them. He wouldn't even talk to anyone about selling it. He would not give up the self moderation of the site.
Packing.org did have the information broken down and presented in a very unique way. The problem with it was keeping it up to date. It is very easy to post anything on the web. Keeping it up to date was what made Packing.org the site it was. The info was correct and up to date. The reason I know that is I was the person who did most of the updating of Packing.org and most state pages since the day it was born till Oct ot 2005.
It takes a lot of time to keep the info updated. Check all the links etc. Packing.org had over 3K links that had to be checked to make sure they worked. Nothing worse than going to a site and the links don't work. Every law change for CCW etc in every state had to watched and updated on the site.
When Steve Aikens ask me to help with a new Web site for CCW teh main topic of discussion was that it could not take 4, 5 or 6 hours a day to keep it up. Handgunlaw.us was born and we present the info to those who visit the site in what we consider the easiest way. It is far easier to keep updated than packing.org and does not take near the time. Steve and I do this with Steve paying for all hardware and software and Time and I do the vast majority of the research. We do it becasue as NRA Instructors we know the info is needed. I am still amazed at the number of people who do not know they can carry in other states with their home state permit.
We are trying but the one thing we are not going to do is work ourselves into a job that takes hours a day.
