Paint night sights

Anyone ever kill their night sights with black paint?

No.

Why would anyone want to do that? Sell'em to someone if you don't like night sights.

I've put some sight paint on the rear night sights of my Kahr in an attempt to better tell the front from the rear if its really dark enough to need them (old age presbyopia makes it hard to focus), I just wanted to make them a bit dimmer or otherwise more immediately different than the front to speed up alignment.

Paint didn't hold up well in carry. I'm not really a fan of night sights, if its dark enough to really need them how, do you identify your target before shooting? How do you practice actually using them?

They're most useful in low-light conditions.

It's seldom so dark that you can't see anything -- but if that were to happen, they'd be no worse than any other sights. If you can't see ANYTHING, you probably ought not be thinking about pulling a trigger, anyway.

I don't like them unless they have a white "surround" circling the tritium vial. Then they're good in bright light, too.

At our IDPA club matches, we'd do some scenarios with the lights down or low, but not total darkness. Most indoor ranges will have ways to practice shooting in low-light conditions.
