The Panola County Gun Club Championship will be this weekend. www.epcgc.com. Panola is famous for being a wind tunnel, the range lined with tall walls of pine trees. The shooters that come out of the club tend to have very refined no-wind zeros, so when they get out in the wind they shoot pretty well. Plus the target carriers can be run with one hand and the number boards are higher than the targets. Lots of the Texas State National Match Team come out of that club. Everyone seems to have a distinguished rifle and high master pin on their hat. Lots of expertise and great teachers and coaches at the club.
Needless to say the Club Championship is competitive. It's an 80 shot match. I bet 785 will be competitive, but it certainly could take more than that.
I had the wheels come off and smoke from under the hood at the Louisiana State Championship and managed to win, but even a loose lug-nut will sink you at Carthage.
I'm refilling the ammo boxes.
I've won a Regional at Carthage and been second place in a Regional where I was one POINT higher than third place and one X lower than first place. I won a Panola EIC match where 485 didn't make the cut. It can get tight. I've never won this match. I think I might have been second or third.
Match rifles and service rifles are all mixed together.
Free BBQ lunch after the match catered by Daddy Sams of Carthage. (You kill it, they grill it)
