I am looking for something functional - not trying to have some kind of "look." I tend to wear cargo pants, but it doesn't have to be cargo. I like cotton without all those weird seams I see in "tactical" pants. Canvas and ripstop feel awful to me and it's just not very warm in the winter. I feel those seams - in the knee and such. I would also like a small separate pocket for a small knife. With a gun on my right hip, a knife in the right pocket is just too hard to get to. Also, a small pocket for OC spray. Sometimes I put them in the cargo pockets, but that's so low. A big thing is the size of the belt loops. In that first belt loop at the front, it needs to be able to accept the end of the belt. With some pants, the belt loop is not big enough to get a double thickness of a belt into it. So, looking for recommendations of long pants

Thanks

Carhartt or Dickies Carpenter pants work well for me. The ruler pockets are good for knives, etc, and are easily reached, without "reaching".

The pant legs are full cut, with plenty of room for ankle holsters, and the pants overall allow for a lot of unrestricted movement and you dont wear yourself out fighting with them just walking around.

I use a 1.75" wide belt, and no problems with the loops there.

They are reasonably heavy duty too, and youll have to work at wearing them out.

I've got a few pairs of Dickies pants that are serving me pretty well. All have belt loops large enough for a Beltman 1.5" belt.

I have been wearing Dickies pants exclusively for the last 20 years. They last for ever. I have never had a pocket hole thought. I am giving them a new test since I got my CPL this July, carrying a J-frame in the right front pocket. So far the pocket is holding up fine. No holster, just my home-made trigger cover, so the barrel weighs on the bottom corner of the pocket.

I've been quite happy with Wrangler Relaxed Fit cargo pants. Comfortable, and the left cargo pocket has a handy open-top phone pocket behind the flap pocket.

I wear Lee Carpenters, 2" bigger in the waist than if I didn't carry. They're very comfortable and I like how they fit over my boots. They're not the most durable jeans ever, but I don't mind looking threadbare.

I just find some lee jeans that fit. I think most "tactical" pants are more comfortable and easier for carry but they've got that look that screams "I'm definitely armed". Jeans look normal and are durable . I'm not going to get into politics of various companies but I will say that I haven't found a pair of modern Levi's that I can even wear, tight in the crotch, low waist and tappered narrow legs- all of them, the feel awful and look like they're made for my wife. Others are a little better but my only good fitting jeans I've been able to find over the years (regardless of trying many others) have been lee.

I try not to look like a mall ninja even though my daily loadout is pretty substantial . I have a pair of 5.11s that feel best of all when carrying a big gun but I'll only wear them if I'm not going to be out in public or I'm headed into the woods. I'm not a guy you'll ever see in my pajamas at Wal-Mart , I'm not self conscious or worried what anyone thinks but I do my very best to look as nondescript and nonspecific as possible. I live in a pretty left leaning area and I just don't want to alarm anyone.

Wear what feels good but isn't a dead giveaway that you're armed, jeans are the best I've found.

I like Wrangler Carpender pants from Walmart. They're cheap - in both ways. That is, they don't last very long, but they don't cost a lot either. Besides, they're comfortable.
Another thing I like about them is that they have 7 belt loops instead of just 6. That works well for OWB carry for me because I can "straddle" the second belt loop back on my right with my holster - that puts my handgun at 4:00 o'clock on my right hip and keeps it there. I carry my Benchmade knife clipped to the inside of my right front pocket and have no trouble accessing it.
I don't know how my Wrangler Carpender pants from Walmart are going to work for IWB carry - yet. I'm going to try it out real soon though. As I've posted before, having an IWB holster for my G19 sitting on a shelf in the closet has been my motivation to lose some weight. And I have. A year ago, I was wearing 38-30 pants. I'm real comfortable in 36-30 now (in fact they're a little loose) and I figure I'll be into 34-30s by the end of deer season in a few weeks. However, I'm going to stick with my 36-30s for a while (at least until I wear them out) because I figure they'll be more comfortable when I start using that brand-new IWB holster I have on a shelf in the closet. ;)

Consider changing your style of dress. If you can feel the seams, they are way too tight for IWB carry.
Dump the skinny jeans and get 'relaxed fit' cargos.
I wear Duluth Flex Firehose cargo pants in their relaxed fit. I buy them the next size up to accommodate carrying IWB. I have no problem with them being too tight, nor do I feel the seams.

I got a bit of a chuckle out of that. Of course, you don't know me so how would you know :). But the thought of me in skinny jeans just cracks me up. No, my pants tend to be baggy. Still, I can feel seams in unusual places when sitting or they brush up against you. I actually don't wear jeans because they are too uncomfortable - too tight in the hip/crotch area. More baggy/thinner material is what I need. Jeans too stiff. Anyway, all my pants are relaxed cargos. Just need some that lends itself better to carrying. I appreciate all the advise.
