Need some guidance from the 1911 folks here. I'm doing some research and figured this is THR is the first stop.

I'm doing a group buy for Limited Edition Paraordinance for my fellow Soldiers here in Iraq with 3BCT 101. Here's the deal that is worked out for $725.

Full size Para 1911 (.45ACP)
Capacity 14+1
5 inch ramped, match barrel with guide rod
3 dot tritium night sights
Stainless receiver with rail
Spurred competition hammer
Medium length match grade trigger
Flat top slide
Total of 5 magazines
Delivery to dealer

Plus
Engraving for my Brigade in 3 locations on the slide

Our total $725

MSRP for the above package is stated at $1630.

And if given the choice, would anyone suggest altering the deal even if it adds a little to the price?

I'm particularly interested in changing the caliber to .40 caliber. Does anyone have any experience with the .40 in the 1911 frame?

Surely someone has an opinion of the Canadian based 1911 peddler? Good, bad, ugly?
If you are asking about an opinion on Para Ordnance pistols in general, I only own one and am very happy with it.

I have no opinion on your question about it in .40 caliber (I have no experience w/.40)

The deal you mentioned in post #1 sounds like a good one and I would not hesitate.

I thank you and your fellow soldiers for your service.

There was a thread very similar to this a couple months ago, maybe two. One was from a cop whose department or academy class or whatever, was getting an offer for this same deal; the other (if it wasn't you) was someone in Iraq, part of a cav outfit or something like that. One of them got a whole bunch of replies, including one from me.

Good experience

I've had nothing but good experience with my Para 14.45 LDA - excellent shooter, very fine craftsmanship. As good as almost any pistol of any size/caliber I've shot in 40 years. Price seems more than fair for what you describe.

i own a P14 and have had no problem with it at all. that seems to be a good deal as the mags run 50$ locally, like 30 online.

is this the SA or the LDA?

Maybe add an Ambi safety? Are these going to be duty guns, or personnal use/commemerative items?

There is an ambi safety and the trigger is SA.

I've read a lot of bad reviews on Para, and I'm not crazy about them being a Canadian company.... tempting nonetheless.

para's are nice and they run, i am very pleased with the para's that i have experienced over the years. as far as .40 in 1911, i have no knowledge but i do love .40 in general, and own many guns in that caliber, but keep it as true to form as possible, i say keep the .45acp.

also our local gunshop did a similar thing with 2BCT 3ID when we got back this time with xd .45 acp models.

for sure:

I seen one of those special edition, already traded in at gander mt. super nice gun. defnitely stick with the 45 caliber, you willhave far better reliability to. Nice gun, hell of a deal.

I have a Para LTC (Commander clone) and it's a great shooter. I also have a P16 LDA in .40 and it's an amazing amount if fun to shoot. No problems with either. I've read the bad stuff about Para myself but mine are reliable, period. Here's a pic of my well worn P16 - I think it has character myself.

Oh, by the way - HOOAH! (Son is 4th BCT, 3rd ID. I'm DA civilian for HQ FORSCOM)
