Wanted to know if anyone owns, or has experience with the Para PXT P14-45 model . I'm trying to narrow my 1911 search, and the idea of a full size with 14 rds. is intriguing.

I have a quite old P-14 .45. It is a fine piece of equipment-100% reliable, very accurate and I love the payload!

As long as the double-stack grip fits your hand, it is an accurate pistol.

I have had a P-13 for 10 years. The only thing you have to do religiously is to make sure that you replace the magazine springs regularly (I change mine after ~1000 per magazine).

For some reason, doublestack .45 magazines give out faster than other calibers. You will know this is happening when your gun starts to stovepipe, FTE, and double feed.

Properly service that pistol and it will not be an issue.

I've had great luck with the guns, poor luck with the magazines. The new "ACT" mags I got from CDNN for ~$23 have so for worked better than any of the "made in Canada" expensive Para magazines.

The Mec-Gars mags have also been pretty good but they hold 13 instead of 14 rounds, some didn't activate the slide lock until I filed a bit off the follower so it could come up higher in the tube. These run about $20.

--wally.

Edit: Short magazine spring life matches my experience, keep spare spings in your range bag.

I have two older Po 14-45's. an LDA and a Signature with adjustable sights, etc. Enjoy shooting both. Have not had any reliability problems.

Not to be the devils advocate, but why not just buy a Rock Island double stack for half the Paras price, and customize it with the other $400?

I owned a Tac-Four and Para Carry and I loved them, that LDA trigger is incredible. But I'm planning on getting a range toy and I want a double stack 1911-style gun,so I'm going to start with the RIA and build it to fit ME...

Just an alternative thought, that's all...You won't go wrong with any Para Ordnance...:D
