Whats up guys, I'm new to this forum and this is obviously my first post, just wanted to let you guys know that I currently reside in Brooklyn, NY and applied for a Premises/Target (Residence) license..I contacted an agency on line that deals with pistol permits...they weren't too much help, and charged me $700.00 back on May 2010, they didn't even fill out the application correctly I had to make some adjustments....Anyway I submitted the application on July 8 and met with the investigating officer Aug 24, he told me all is well and that I SHOULDN'T have a problem being approved, he said sit tight 4-6 weeks until I receive a letter stating for me to go over to 1 police plaza to pick up a purchase authorization form..(being that he doesn't change his mind in that I SUPPOSIVLEY am being approved. Anyway, its 4 weeks now, and still no letter still waiting, wish me luck!! :-/

Good luck, that sucks that you have to get a letter from the police, and then go to the police station for a second permission slip to buy a gun to keep in your house.

Telling me...and what gets me upset is that allll this effort and the gun would have to be kept in a safe even AT HOME!! GRRRR!!

Does the permit to keep a pistol in your apartment cost $700, or is that just what the third party, was charging you to "expedite" your permit?

No the permit in NYC consists of $340.00 for the application itself and $94.25 for the fingerprinting..the $700.00 was just the 3rd party...BIIGG MISTAKE on my behalf I know I know, the agency did inform me though that the $700.00 will be refunded if my application is denied.

That is INSANE!! Nevermind the $700 mistake, the $435 is enough to buy a decent gun and a good bit of practice ammo. That was spent just to get permission to buy a firearm!!

I hope it all goes well for you. I'm about two hours west of you and it would take me less than 30 minutes to buy a new weapon, that includes driving to and from the gun shop.

Yeah I hear you bgeddes and agree with you 100%..Im really hoping that I get approved, cause in the last 3 months. I have been getting more and more into firearms.

I lived in NY City and then LI, I had my permit 30 years ago, I now live in Gun Owners Paridise, TN, Must issue carry permits, Instant check to purchase a handgun or two when ever you want, No Chuck Schumer,

I think it would be very hard to be a law abiding citizen under those laws. Even tho you would be considered one anywhere else.

I am glad to live where I live. I feel for you, but it is good to see someone taking up an interest despite the hurdles you have to jump.

Patatuchy,
Good luck with your permit. I lived my whole life in Brooklyn until I moved from there a little over 5 years ago. I had no idea what it meant to be free until I moved to PA.

Thanks archangelcd..i have some family memebers who also moved out to PA they said they love it over there

Man, that sucks. So if the permit is denied, the 3rd party refunds $700!!!!! ( that would buy a sweet gun ).
What about the state fees? Bet not.

Geeezzz, in for over a grand, and gun not included. That would realy grind on me.

Down here ( TX ), guns are bought & sold at garage sales. Nobody involved but the buyer & seller.

But best of luck. When you finally get something, let us know.

Wow..Iv'e been to Texas,,been to Houston Austin and Dallas, Great state Tuckerdog1 and i would definitely I let you know the outcome, it should be soon!!

I agree ljnowell, and keeping in mind how difficult it is here in NYC even for someone like me that has never been arrested in all my 39 years, I received 1 summons back when I was 20 or 21 (18-19) yrs ago for a left turn signal which I paid for the very next day, after that my record and driver license are squeaky clean!

Sounds to me like these fees were aimed specifically at poor/middle class . . . I wonder if there's a basis for a legal challenge there.

Sucks having to go through all that.
