Sounds to me like these fees were aimed specifically at poor/middle class . . . I wonder if there's a basis for a legal challenge there.

Exactly - and for this reason I'm *very* surprised nobody has challenged it and had it overturned yet.
Small administrative fees are one thing - but this clearly a barrier for many poor or working class individuals, so it's arguably infringing upon peoples' right to arms.

Immediately following the recent Supreme Court recommendation, here in Chicago there was a lot of speculation that Emperor Daley would try to put unreasonable fees on registration, and there were a crapton of people pre-emptively challenging that, saying they'll take him and the city right back to court if they do.

The new fees are bad (i don't remember exactly what- i moved just outside of the city a while back ;) .. but around $100 i think), but they're nowhere NEAR what it sounds like NYC residents are charged.
And there is *still* a followup suit about the legality of the new ordinances. If any court decision/opinion is made on the cost barrier, NYC residents should have an easy time challenging yours.

Guess we just have to wait and see. Good luck with your permit by the way.

Well I feel better about the cost of getting my CCH permit in NC now.

Total cost with class, permit application, fingerprints, and other charges is $190. I took a lower priced class. Some places are charging as much as $120 just for a one day class.

The wait is a bear though. I was told it usually takes five to thirteen weeks.

I would glaadly wait the 5 -13 weeks instead of going through the process what we have to go through here in NYC though MikeNice, consider yourself lucky! :-}

About time you moved outta New York.
Or better yet, start electing some people who can read and understand the Constitution.

There are new candidates at every level this election season (and potentially into 2012). Find one who is 2A friendly, and work for him/her. Vote against the entrenched career politicians every chance you get.

While you're at it, work to get rid of that utter POS Michael Bloomberg.

It starts at the state level, the city level. We have a unique opportunity here; the voters are seriously dissatisfied at every level. It will be a November To Remember, and that may only be the beginning. I hope and pray.

Thank the Lord I live in Idaho. Patatuchy it's nice to have a good man like you here - welcome.

There quite a few here in NYC Valkman, well not ALOT but I know of at least 3 that are no more than 20 min driving time, there's 1 that's about 10 min away from where I reside, whats funny is that I'm sure business isn't very good for them haha!! usually its mostly Law Enforcement that go to buy there im sure being there are not too many New Yorkers with gun permits.
