I’ve been following this issue in that I have an interest in this handgun. I thought that given the numerous reports of failure to feed, especially with heavier bullets, S&W would be interested in fixing whatever issue is causing this issue. Individuals have sent in their gun for repair and had it returned with polished feed ramps, but with the problem persisting. Others have used extra strength magazine, or/and recoil springs. Some have suggested modifying the extractor. I sent an Email to S&W, expecting a serious response and here is what I got in return:
”Thank you for contacting Smith & Wesson and for your support. To avoid any failure to feed issues it is important when loading the magazine to load a few rounds and then smack the magazine This ensures the rounds are seated properly. In our experience most issues we have seen with the failure to feed are caused by improper loading of the magazine.“
Others report that the help desks responded by telling them to shoot lighter bullets. Now, I’ve been happy with their 9mm products, but will someone rely upon a “smack” of the magazine prior to hiking through bear country?
