Just wondering if anyone knows if its legal to do a person to person through the mail in NY state. I have a chance to buy a rifle and if it was shipped to me direct it would save the transfer fee of $25.Any info anyone could give will be greatly appreciated.

If this is in the wrong forum Mods please feel free to move it .Thanks.

Uh uh, sorry, no can do. Unless you happen to be sending it to yourself, or via intestate (that is, wills and probate), and you two are residents of different states, you gotta go through an FFL in the state of New York.

Thanks for the reply . Actuly we are in the same state thats what made me wonder .Any other info anyone could give would be appreciated.

As far as Federal law is concerned, there is no need for an FFL to be involved if it is an intrastate transfer. I don't know what New York law has to say though.
