Pharmacists are among the "special class" that can get a NY CCW permit.

Is there a list someplace that details what the protectable classes are in NYC?
(hopefully I didn't gloss over and miss a link)

I've seen this situation in several states now, where it's easier to get a permit to protect cash or jewelry or other commercial business valuables than it is to get one to protect yourself or others under your care or protection. By reading the rules it would be fairly simple to presume that the lawmakers value cash higher than a human life since they allow CCW for protection of cash but not for protecting one's own life.

Such is life, and death.

Maybe I'll become a jeweler and deliver pizza on the side.

There's the rub cyclist, they don't list them, they leave it open to interpretation. I know of one friend who has full carry here in Westchester County (chance to get here is about the same as NYC) due to his buisiness, large amounts of cash transported. When he was going for his license the judge required him to turn in copies of his last 5 years financial records to "justify" it. Each time he needs to renew he has to submit a financial report and some other form stating he holds the same job, and hasn't been moved to a new position where he's not handling as much money. Even though he has it, he's still been hassled by the cops who think "there is no such thing as full carry here"

It's just sad that self defense isn't an applicable reason. you either have to have something to protect or extensive documentation that someone out there has made direct threats against you.

Just from watching the Utah news, pharmacies are the new hip place to rob. Over the last few years, we have had a LOT of them, with robbers who could care less about getting ID'd and caught than they are about getting just one more hit before they do.

I'm actually getting minor surgery next week. (I'm being fitted for a permanent blank-firing adapter,) I'm petrified of narcotic painkillers. I seriously think, if they give me a scrip for a few pills, I won't fill it, I'll stick to Advil and bite the bullet.

It still seems silly, of all the groups in NYC needing protection, pharmacists get good treatment.

There is a reason I left 'The Rotten Apple' back in '77.
Back when I resided in Brooklyn, New York to obtain a concealed handgun permit. You had to submit the usual; background check, and fingerprints, no problem there. But you also had to pay I believe it was $200.00 to the Policemans Benevolent Association [a Union for Cops] which was non-refundable.

If you are in severe pain, your recovery can be hampered. You're better off filling the script and then only taking what you need. It is when folks pop them unneeded that they get hooked.

You'd think it would get better no?

"Applicants must submit a signed and notarized application to the License Division along with two money orders. The application fee is $340.00. The fingerprint fee is $99.00. Money orders should be made payable to the “New York City Police Department.”

What do I have to do to purchase a new handgun?

You must obtain a Handgun Purchase Authorization form from the License Division before you purchase a handgun. Call the Purchase Order Section at (646) 610-5550 for information. After purchasing the handgun, you must bring it to the License Division within 72 hours to have the make, model and serial number recorded on your handgun license.
