I cant tell what type of gun it is. I thougt it might be an off brand taser but its too short. It could be a compact 45 glock. It looks like a brick in his hand. If the deputy was actually standing like that in preparation for combat he was in bad shape but I think that the picture was taken while he was on the move and was enroute to check the hall way. By the looks of it he didnt investigate the hallway very well before he decided to make the approach. I would think by the picture that he walked straight in to the line of fire had there been a bad guy there he would have been hit before he got off the first round. He should have taken traced the wall instead of making himself such and easy target.

bad shape, but i think hes bringing his arms in preparing to pass through the door.

better for making sure no one grabs your gun

aside from the fact i hope he isnt evicting some one from their foreclosed home i dont see anything significant about this picture. theres no struggle, theres no loss or drama. just a black and white photo

I'm not sure he's holding a weapon at all. It might be a camera or video recorder. The caption strikes me as based on uninformed assumption, and his stance is somewhat inappropriate and incongruous for weapon use.

FWIW, we wouldn't consider anything in this picture acceptable except the composition as a photograph.

The list of what is wrong could get quite long, but it starts with "clearing" a house by yourself.

Trying to dissect what is obviously a staged photo that had nothing to do with a real event and isn't meant as a training piece is a bit futile.

Isolating the position of the gun, we'd recommend coming back to a one handed high compressed ready and having the other hand off the gun to shield before getting within an arms reach of the doorway/corner.

IMO it looks like too much crap on floor to "trace the wall" or much else. It would be nice to always have a partner. The small town dept that offered me a job/I did a lot of rides with made it clear. Backup would not be common UNLESS something big happened. I assisted clearing a number of businesses/homes as it would be 20 minutes for backup. Now they have two part timers who call (via cell) and try to get the other part timer up to assist if after 11pm. So they need to contact Cheif if they are going to be out of town/be drinking so he can cover.

a camera is not a gun, and as such, the officer is SOTL if hes counting on a photographer for back up.

his stance isnt HORRIBLE considering him moving into a door way. but it isnt great.

meh, photo rant removed

If he actually pulls the trigger, the gun appears it is close enough to break his nose when the slide comes back. Add a little recoil, and it will likely draw blood as well.

Pistol with a light; statistics probably favor it being a GLOCK™, but I can't tell. Very difficult to assess a dynamic situation from a single static photo.

That stance looks absolutely normal to me...after watching Horatio get behind his SIG on CSI...LOL!!!

Maybe this guy has watched too much TV???

I don't see a problem with his stance. Sure he's not going to be winning any long range accuracy competitions shooting like that, but he is moving and he's keeping his weapon and his extremities close to his body, where they're harder for someone else to take control of. He also has his weapon in (or close to) his field of view, which will make it easy enough for him to point shoot with acceptable accuracy at indoor distances.

Also, I'm not sure that thing mounted under his barrel isn't a laser/light combo, so he may not really need a "proper" stance to hit his target.

It's not a gun at all! He's making shadow puppets!

That's a dog with an underbite.

Looks like w Glock w/light to me. Given the angle of the photo, it's hard to say for certain if the handgun is as close to his face as it seems. All things considered, I've seen a whole lot worse in terms of gun handling during a search, in person, photo, and television.

It's sad Cleveland is such a mess. Of course even Elliot Ness as Safety Director of Cleveland in the 30's couldn't totally fix it so I guess it got worse after he left.

1) What is the firearm?
appears to be some kind of handgun.

2) Is his stance acceptable?
hard to tell from the picture, but I see nothing inherently wrong with it. the picture makes it hard to see the relationship of all the pieces of the puzzle.

I am guessing it was staged. if he felt the need to have his gun out like that, he would not have allowed a photographer in with him.

He appears to be in the process of presenting his pistol. The gun sights are not yet completely lined with his eye (I used a card to compare eye with gun).

Looks to me like he has just begun to present and move, the pistol is not at full extension and the front sight is not-yet lined-up with his eye.

It could all be putting on a show for the photographer.
