There have been several threads in the past on ill-intentioned attempts by physicians to ascertain whether their patients own firearms. My wife's interaction with a physician this week was rather different. The other day she had an appointment for a routine physical exam with a new doctor. In the course of her exam, they talked about a rather bad incident that had occured just a few days before in which a rolling shoot-out between people in a couple of different vehicles had ended with a crash just a couple of miles from our house. At that point the doctor said, "Well, I certainly hope you have a handgun carry permit--I made sure that my wife got hers." My wife assured him that she did indeed have a permit and used it on a regular basis. Then followed a discussion of the usual carry weapons and methods for her, the doctor, the doctor's wife, the doctor's daughter, etc. My wife was quite amused by the entire conversation, and I was happy to know that this doctor was so concerned for the well-being of his patients. I think I'll be switching to him!
:D

Outstanding! He want's to make sure you already have the remedy for what could possibly ail ya in the future i.e. bad guy's bullets. He should write a prescription for all of his patients to get their permit. I would love to see the courthouse have to fill that. :p

When I go in for my 3month check( I am diabetic} my doctor always asks me how much to remove from my weight! He knows I CC and removes the weight of my weapon from my scale weight!

I started going to a new doctor a few months ago, and her office isn't in the best part of town, so instead of locking the gun in the car, I wore it inside for a follow-up visit. I was certain this was just gonna be a quick question and answer thing, then she told me to strip down..........oh CRAP! I hemmed and hawed and stalled, and she knew something was up. I finally pulled my vest back and showed her my "other" butt, and said, "Whaddya want me to do with this?" She didn't bat an eye, just said to put in on the chair under my vest.

After the exam was finished, she motioned for me to get dressed again, and gestured toward the vest........"Nine?" I shook my head and said, "45." She kind of giggled, then looked at me and said, "You Americans and your big guns. I never carry anything bigger than a 9 millimeter, and I'm not afraid of nobody." She is originally from Haiti, I bet she could tell some interesting stories!

There are MANY many doctors in these parts that frequent the ranges I go to.

Most of them have seen the morons of society (and their victims) and are very aware of the dangers that abound.

You'd be surprised just how many of them carry daily.

Makes me feel all cozy...lol..."Doc, Cover my back"...lol

A drugged-out thug was acting suspicious while sitting at the counter of a Tacoma, WA restaurant a few weeks ago. The thug then enters the restaurant's private dining/party room where a group of 10 or so doctors were dining. He demanded money from one doctor who sheepishly complied. The unarmed thug left briefly, only to return a few minutes later to demand money from the entire group. Some of the docs thought they were being 'punked' and did not take this guy seriously. One doctor however realized what was going down and drew his legally-carried sidearm. Wide-eyed thug then makes a bee-line for the door and police arrest him a block away.

There's a thoracic surgeon in the KC area who shoots NRA highpower.

My current doctor is treating me for shooting related tennis elbow.

An optometrist offered to stay late one evening and fit me for the right diopter shooting glasses by actually letting me get into postion with my AR in the office while she ran different strengths of lenses on me.

Broke a tooth while shooting a match out of town, had to visit the local ER on a Saturday night. I spent all of 45 minutes there, 20 of that was talking shooting with the ER doc after he gave me enough codeine to keep me pain free until Monday.

Once, when I lived in an apartment complex, one of my next door neighbors was a African American nurse whose only weapons was a Colt M4A1 SBR sans the happy switch and a Beretta 92SB. She was a former Army MP before she went to nursing school who decided that they kept her alive and out of trouble in the Army, they'd do her just fine as a civilian.

The current doctor I'm seeing asked about guns once. I told that unless she's interested in owning or wants to talk about each other's collections the subject was taboo.

Alot of the doctors I know and work with are quite happy to discuss firearms and are willing to even give advice if asked. One I know is a retired Green Berete and another's favorite hobby is to go large game hunting in Africa and other parts of the world.

Good people all.
