There have been several threads in the past on ill-intentioned attempts by physicians to ascertain whether their patients own firearms. My wife's interaction with a physician this week was rather different. The other day she had an appointment for a routine physical exam with a new doctor. In the course of her exam, they talked about a rather bad incident that had occured just a few days before in which a rolling shoot-out between people in a couple of different vehicles had ended with a crash just a couple of miles from our house. At that point the doctor said, "Well, I certainly hope you have a handgun carry permit--I made sure that my wife got hers." My wife assured him that she did indeed have a permit and used it on a regular basis. Then followed a discussion of the usual carry weapons and methods for her, the doctor, the doctor's wife, the doctor's daughter, etc. My wife was quite amused by the entire conversation, and I was happy to know that this doctor was so concerned for the well-being of his patients. I think I'll be switching to him!
