I rounded the grips of my Ruger and I liked the result.

If you want to swap back to the square grips, go ahead and do it. All round-grip models will fit square-grips, but not vice versa. I wouldn't put round grips on a 6-incher...the balance just isn't right.

Don't have any pics, but I used to have a 4" Ruger Speed Six that I put Pachmayr Grippers on. It looked good and felt great.

Yep.

"Confederate-- Great Idea! I'll have to find a speed-six grip to use as a pattern."

I saw that thread and did my 2 3/4 Security. Love it! I don't think I'd do a 4 or a 6, but it's perfect on the snub.

Yes, you can turn a Security Six into an adjustable sighted Speed Six!

I did it along time ago!

This thread is making me regretfully nostalgic. The best lockup of any Security Six I've owned was a 4" stainless that wore Pachmayr Grippers. I wear a size 10 glove, and it just fit me. I gave it away as a wedding gift to friend, and I've missed that gun ever since.

Confederate: In post #5, pic #5, are those Pachmayr Compac grips?
Yes.

The fellow who taught me that was Ed Harris, a technical writer for the NRA. He did a roundup of .357s and had to use his own Security-Six in the review. He also found a piece of orange plastic that fit into the front sight notch and made himself a blazing orange front sight. He made it the shape he wanted, cut it using simple shop tools and drilled a hole in it and tapped the retaining pin into it. He told me he had worn out a couple of Model 19s by shooting too many hot .357 rounds in them.

That's why he switched to a stainless Security-Six.

Me, I got mugged in Hawaii when I was going to school there. Two big Polynesians who'd had too much to drink. When I returned to Utah, I sold a nice telescope I had and bought my first gun, a handgun. And it was a Ruger Security-Six. I'd never heard of "Ruger" and initially thought someone was trying to capitalize on the Luger name. After I bought a gun magazine, I saw a write-up on a Security-Six and beat a hasty path back to the gun store and bought a 4-incher stainless. The second thing I learned was not to use the factory grips to shoot magnum loads. The magazine I bought said: "Bill Ruger only has one tree and he's still making grips out of it!" How true!

The solid frame of the Ruger made it a real workhorse among many
police departments.

The 2.75-inch Security-Six just looks "cool" with round-butt grips!

What the hell's wrong with a blender!?

It sounds like a neat story. Care to elaborate on it here? I'd love to hear it. Had he/she shot it and liked it?

Guys,

While I pack Glocks for social purposes, don't ever think I would feel unarmed with a good Speed Six (or short Security Six) with Buffalo Bore 158gr LSWHP .38s.

I'm lucky I grew up with Colt 'O' frames and Smith 'K's as a kid. As a result even with fancy 17 shooters I still AIM. While I can do .15 splits (I'm a IDPA and IPSC shooter) I find hitting the target dead on far more effective than a bunch of peripheral hits.

These two below are also mine and the Speed Six shown I personally chroned the BB 158s out at 1100 fps! And that ain't bad! I also chroned out of the 2 inch M64 pictured and it gave a true 1000 fps. Oh, and that 2 inch 64 was my second CHL gun when the CHL first came out (a 640 in .38 was my first.)
