Stopped by my favorite gunshop Sunday afternoon. Usually just go there to BS and see what's new on the shelf. There on the rack was this Security Six that was calling to me "Take me home, please!" So I did.
Asking price was $250, taked them down to $200. Blueing is 99%, barely a wear line around the cylinder.
Whoever owned it last had Pachmayer gripper grips on it, the dealer had put some well worn factory wood on because he "liked them better" (he gave me the Pach's too). I must say I like the way the factory ones look and feel, don't like the Pachmayer's at all: fit or feel. Haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet so I don't know how I'll like the factory grips.
Anyone have Hogue grips on their Sixes? I've used them on other guns and liked them a lot.

I dont have a set of houge grips, but throw up a picture of your pachs and I more than likely will buy them off you to help fund your houges.

I have hogue monogrips on one of mine. Very comfy. However, it didn't fit well when I bought it and had to use tape shims on the inside as well as a little razor blade to trim.

I had hogue's on every security six i
owned over the years. But it seems i
had to fit the grips on all of them.
In contrast, hogues fit my S&W's fine
out of the box.

I have several Security Sixes and I like the factory Ruger target grips! These feel good in my medium to large hands. They are also less bulky and better fitting than Smith & Wesson K-frame target grips(For example)! Following are two styles of these Ruger target grips. The first picture(Below)shows the target grips that Ruger introduced around 1985. The target grips in the second picture is known as the Ruger "Big Grip" that has been available since around 1979.:

Pictures to come!

Slick6: I like the looks of the smooth target grips, are they still available from Ruger? The Checkered ones look a lot like the ones on my Trooper.

This piece may eventually become a carry weapon, CCW doesn't take effect until January so I have plenty of time to make decisions.
BTW: My 6 has the 2 3/4" barrel.

Security Six target grips

Sisco:

1)You might contact Ruger to ask them to check their inventory for the smooth, later model target grips, which will fit both the Security sixes and Service Sixes, regardless of barrel length?

2)I knew of someone who had put the above smooth target grips on his 2-3/4 inch Security Six-and, they looked great-even on this shorter barrel length!

3)Even if Ruger is out of the smooth target stocks, the first design, Ruger "Big Grip" as I've pictured above, are still nice for these short barreled Security & Service Sixes! For an target grip, both designs are fairly trim, with no excess bulk! For sure though, both versions of these wood target grips will improve your ability to control your Security Six during firing much better than the standard Ruger service grips!

4)Although the Ruger grips might appear to be similar to the grips on your Trooper, they are much slimmer & trimmer than your larger, Trooper grips(No comparison!)!

You purchased a fine handgun. I've never been sorry about mine. The pacymars are excellent. (likely blew spelling)

I have the pressed checkered grips in the box. The smooth ones are nicer looking but I'll stick to my Pac's for actually touching off the beast.

Thanks for the info,

I'm with Cosmoline on this one, I like the Tyler T-Grip I have on my Six. (It's one of the 150 series and difficult to find aftermarket grips for anyway)

What a good price!

Excellent deal Sisco. Just had a friend pick up a Smith 3913 for $200, with two spare mags!

Now if I had seen BOTH deals at once, I'd just go nuts, put them on lay-away, and make excuses to my wife!

Great deal. You made a wise decision. Great guns those Security Sixes.

The OP bought that Ruger 4 years ago. wonder if he/she stills owns it?

Yup, Security-Sixes are like "Frito-Lay" potato chips.........you can't get enough of em! I recently acquired this one:

I found out that trigger shoe fit the Security a lot better than the Speed Six, probably because the Speed already has a textured trigger.

Cosmoline:

How accurately does your snubby Security-Six shoot? The reson I'm asking this is because I have an identical stainless 2-3/4" Security-Six that I bought about 10 years ago-but, it's still NIB so, eventually I'll(hopefully)be obtaining one, that will be a shooter?
