picked up a kimber solo

If your talking about my pics, thanks!

Yes, thanks for the comparison between the 238 and the Solo. Does Kimber offer a pinky ext. for it? I can squeeze all three fingers on the LC9 with the extension installed and it shoots great.

Don't know what happened to the OP, but we want pics!

Kimber has an 8rd mag on their website that extends down enough with an extension for a full grip. The problem is they haven't made it available for purchase yet. Here's the link to the mag: http://store.kimberamerica.com/Products/tabid/67/CategoryID/141/ProductID/1626/Default.aspx

For another perspective, here is the Solo on top of a Kimber Ultra Carry II.

Both pictures with the P238 and UCII has the top of the slides perfectly even incase anyone was wondering.

Wonder if a Hogue hand-all grip sleeve would solve the problem?

Probably but I never liked rubber grips on semi-autos and adding bulk to a carry gun negates the design to keep it small/thin. I put slightly thicker wood grips on my Solo but I couldn't even feel the stock plastic ones.

I opted for the Kahr PM9, and I believe it is a handsome pistol. But I'll have to say that Kimber solo is one of the most beautiful handguns I've ever seen.

I shot a Solo this week...a customer brought one in to
the range I work at.

His first visit was not a success; many failures to extract
with 147 grain fmj ammo. He brought it back two days
later with Federal HST 124 grain hp and it was like a different
pistol.

I enjoyed shooting it, and grouped well with it at 7 yards.
It is not unpleasant to shoot, there is recoil, but not
a terrible amount.

My overall impression is that it is a very nice, very concealable
pistol that will probably get better after a couple hundred rounds.
The gun I shot was brand new, picked up the day that it came
in for the first range session. Until it is broken in, the owner is
probably going to have to shoot premium hollow points to get
the pistol to function correctly. Only time will tell if the gun
will ever function with inexpensive ball ammo.

skipjack, the customer should try 124gr or even 115gr. ball ammo. I actually shot 124gr. ball ammo for my first 50 shots and then nothing but 115gr since then with zero problems. I found the 147gr. Gold Dots seems to have the best accuracy so its what I use for carry.

im a kimber fan, and have been since getting into 1911's. ive been through them all, glock, m&p,xdm, liking and disliking each one for some reason or another. all good guns no doubt but just felt at home with 1911 looks style and accuracy. so all that being said i was looking for a smaller something to carry being that a full size 1911 feels like having a chevy 350 in my pants. i looked at the p238 and was so close to getting it, i had already started accessory shopping. but something was just not letting me commit. i hear tale of the solo and wanted it like crazy but alot of reviews of the first dump of them/ youtube misfires and all had me let down and discouraged. all aside wanted to know for myself. located, purchased, love. carries like it should, i took it out and ran all sorts of ammo thru it. my own little torture test if you will. no failure. very pleased with this purchase and would reccommend. after all i dont want to carry and trust something that doesnt work. i feel that the trip back to the custom shop for some models rectified whatever issues were there. mines slicker that a mayonaise sandwich lol.

Mine runs great also. It will run WWwhite box 115 until it gets a bit dirty then some FTEs. Generally for cheap ammo to shoot I use Federal American Eagle 124&147 and the same weights in Speer Lawman ball. It never misses a beat with those.

I decided to give the Wilson Combat checkered panels another try and this time it worked perfectly. Took it to the range and realized I have no need for the grip extension.

I don't see any reason to dump my Kel-Tec p-11 for the solo. What I have works perfectly and didn't cost an arm and a leg!
