I picked up a Taurus CIA 850b Friday night that I had on layaway. The cylinder locks up tighter than my son's S&W Bodyguard and the cylinder clearance on the Taurus is .003 compared to the Bodyguard's .006. The trigger on the 850 starts out lighter and smoother than the M638 but the S&W trigger finishes cleaner. It's gonna be a few weeks before I can get to the range, due do my work schedule, but I'm really anxious to try it out.

It may seem strange, but I like my pistols full size and my revolvers to be snubbies. I had what many consider the ultimate revolver, a M19 but I never warmed up to it and sold it late last year.

Anyone else had any experience with the 850?

I'm one of the few owners of a titanium 850 CIA, I've seen very few postings by anyone who actually owns one. You say you have an 850b?
Couldn't find a listing for an 850b on the Taurus website. I have the 850SHC which is the shadow gray titanium:

http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=850SHC&category=Revolver

The only other one they list is the 850tbcprl - blue/gold with pearl handle.

The cylinder was extremely tight on mine, so tight that it often locked up when dry firing it. There was little or no gap between the cylinder face and forcing cone. The cylinder face was actually scratched by the forcing cone when dry firing it.

I sent it back to Taurus without even firing a shot. It came back perfect and the trigger is very smooth and light. It was my first Taurus, all my other revolvers are S&W.

If you enter "850" in the "Model" box of the Main Product Search on the taurususa.com site you will get a listing of four models.

850B
850SHC
850SS
850BCPRL

The 850B is the plain blue steel frame DAO model in .38 Special.

I still haven't had a chance to take mine to the range yet.

I finally got to the range last night and shot my new Taurus 850b .38 Special snubby for the first time. Winchester 130gr USA FMJ Target/Range and Winchester 130gr Supreme SXT +P Personal Protection. Even with the +P this gun was easy to shoot at a claimed weight of 21 ounces. I shot nice tight defensive groups rapid fire at distances of 15 to 25 feet using both two handed and one handed grips. I can't do that with my son's 15 ounce S&W M638 Bodyguard. With the 638 I'm all over the place no matter what load I use.

I think this Taurus is a keeper. I realize some are not.
