Picking a 7mm-08

Look for an older model 7. Now that hunting season is over you should be able to find one without paying full bore. Some people turn their nose up at pre-owned firearms, there are some great bargains to be found in the used market.

I own a rem 700 BDL in 7/08 but if I were to buy one today I would go with the savage. Handle them both and in particular run the bolt a few times. My savages the bolt is easy to move and well controlled in the receiver. My Remington's the bolt tends to be real loose in the receiver and flops around so it binds a bit.

1. Savage model 14American Classic
2. savage model 11 lightweight hunter
3. A new Winchester model 70 featherweight
4. Remington model seven
I really don't think you can go wrong with any of these guns.

I've actually been looking for an excuse to pick up a Savage Model 11 LWH. I think a LWH in 7mm-08 would be a sweet little gun for hunting any deer sized game, if you are a still hunter or otherwise need to cover a lot of ground while carrying a rifle. On the other hand, if that last pound of weight isn't that important to you, the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight is a great, classic gun that actually has a lower MSRP than the Savage.

So, to me it would be a choice between these two.
